E3 2014: Rainbow Six: Siege Fuses the Old with the New Beautifully

Rainbox Six has reemerged from the murky pit that it was thrown into shortly after the announcement of Rainbow Six:Patriots. Instead of progressing along a path that put it more in line with the Battlefields and Call of Duties of the world, Ubisoft Montreal has wisely decided to dust the mothballs off of the more traditional template that made Rainbox Six such a formidable tactical shooter back in the mid-90s while updating it with spectacular destructibility, enabled by their proprietary Realblast engine and a realtime, not pregame, planning phase. After seeing this high tension five on five assault on a suburban house I almost completely forgot about Battlefield:Hardline’s more blatantly bombastic take on cops and robbers, I hope EA is taking notes.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege will be released for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2015.

While I've traveled the world since the tender age of 6 I have never been far from the world of video games. I currently live in the Netherlands and aim to provide an international perspective on gaming culture to the ravenous audience of Dual Pixels. My favorite genres are first or third person action-adventures and western role playing games. That being said, I play everything I can on my PS4 and PS Vita.
