Square Enix Cancels Next-Gen Hitman Game

Square Enix Montreal was said to be working on the next generation Hitman title but reports from today state that the project is now dead. Speculation about the fate of the newest Hitman title was in the air due to the team’s decision to shift their development focus to iOS and Android titles. When the latest Hitman project was announced back in 2011, Square Enix Montreal said it was to be a “re-imagining” of the series. Although Square Enix Montreal, who developed the most recent entity Hitman Absolution, is ultimately not working on any full scale Hitman titles, IO (Hitman’s creators) are “in pre-production on a new AAA Hitman project”. It has not been told if IO is actually acquiring the project SE Montreal left behind or if they are producing something entirely new. The future of Hitman may not actually be bleak, but rather in reconstruction. Neither IO or Montreal’s Hitman projects were formally titled or revealed.
