Infamous: Second Son Patch Releasing Tomorrow
The ability for developers to implement post-game patches has been a middling experience for many. The charge of a game being rushed out and finished via patches gets thrown around quite often but, the people over at Sucker Punch are releasing a patch with some great added features that enhance the experience to an already incredible game.
One of the most talked about features of Second Son is the unlocked frame rate. By being unlocked there are times where the game runs silky smooth but, as you’d expect, there’s also times where noticeable slow down can occur. Luckily, we only encountered a brief slow-down a handful of times while playing through both Karma paths to completion. But, if your eyes are more attuned to these frame fluctuations the patch will allow you to cap the frame rate at 30 FPS. Capping should allow for less fluctuation but, Brian Fleming of Sucker Punch stated on the Official Playstation Blog that, “ It won’t eliminate the rare instance of a dropped frame during gameplay.”
The two other features making their debuts are the ability to remove the HUD and a photo mode. Any removal of a HUD is a great thing. It’ll be interesting to see how they will relay pertinent info without a HUD, if they do at all. Removing the HUD will also do wonders for photo mode. How many times have you taken that perfect shot only to realize your HUD is taking away from the true beauty of the capture? Or how often have you fumbled with the controller during an intense scene and missed a beautiful action shot? With photo mode, you can freeze time and use the suite of features to create a great shot. The tools available in photo mode range from a simple pan and zoom to the more detailed aperture and coloration settings.
The complete list of fixes/addition as stated on The Official Playstation Blog by Sucker Punch’s Brian Fleming:
A handful of localization text changes, and a couple of fixes for rare crashes in the game (Thanks to all of you who uploaded reports on those, they were extremely helpful!).
If your controller runs out of batteries in the middle of gameplay, your game will pause. Our art director pulled a hamstring scrambling to get his second controller mid-boss-battle, so we needed to fix this.
If you’re choosing expert difficulty, we let you know within the options dialog if you’re qualified for the “Unstoppable” trophy the moment you opt in.
We thoroughly enjoyed Infamous: Second Son and you can check out our review here. The patch may not be enough to make you to commit to another playthrough but, it should definitely make you take one last venture through Seattle.
