Personalize Your Gameplay Videos With PS4’s SHAREfactory

One of the defining features of the PS4 is the dedicated ‘Share’ button that Sony believed was important enough to replace the ‘Start’ button. Capturing screenshots and holding onto and clipping 15 minute chunks of gameplay is all well and good, but in order for the feature to really take off we needed two things to happen, first, more editorial control over our content to make it truly stand out from the crowd and secondly, a way to both archive and share those videos and screen grabs in a way of our, and not Sony’s, choosing.

Sony has listened, and included in the soon to be released update 1.7 for the PS4 we’ll be allowed to save our videos and screenshots to a USB device, turn HDCP off to allow direct capture from HDMI and with SHAREfactory, turn our game play experiences into more than a string of cool moments and allow our aesthetic creativity to shine by adding our own music, commentary and themes to our recordings.

The 1.7 update doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but due to the release of this video I don’t think we’ll be waiting much longer.

While I've traveled the world since the tender age of 6 I have never been far from the world of video games. I currently live in the Netherlands and aim to provide an international perspective on gaming culture to the ravenous audience of Dual Pixels. My favorite genres are first or third person action-adventures and western role playing games. That being said, I play everything I can on my PS4 and PS Vita.
