Steam Hacked: Accounts Compromised, Community Offline

There have been reports from individuals on NeoGAF, Reddit, and Twitch TV that Steam has been hacked. Streamers Summit1G, Phant0ml0rd, Goldglove, and JoshOG reported that they lost their accounts. Reddit user ryugarulz reported they lost items from their account on July 21st when a user logged into the account and Steam never send an email requesting a new PC login. At the time this article is being published, the Steam Community is down as well There had also been claims that the situation was under control and had been fixed; however, at 09:11 U.S. Eastern Time NeoGAF user Lucifon posted a claim that supports new chatter that Steam is experiencing a massive attack.

Lucifon alleges to have woken up this morning with multiple password reset requests and Steam Guard requests in his emails. The claims were filed from a device in the Russian Federation, while the NeoGAF user is living in the United Kingdom. The user checked his email account security only to find there were no login attempts from the Russian Federation, therefore meaning the hacker compromised Steam and Steam Guard without needing access to the email.

And XBOX Live :P…point to the matter is,there is no system in the world that can’t be hacked …needless to say Valve had a huge oversight on this one

Xbox LIVE itself hasn’t been compromised in this way, unlike PSN.
There has been, however, many successful phishing scams against users everywhere, and the inevitable DDoS attacks (which isn’t actually hacking…)

Like I said above, Ubisoft took over a week to respond. You will get nothing sorted fast with them. Also they manage to go of stock of their own games all the time. Doesn’t happen on Steam.
Oh and just so you know EA’s Origin was hacked MANY times lol.

You’re a moron! You don’t even know the difference between a developer and a publisher for a start! Why is Steam any worse or more susceptible than EA’s system for example? Why are these sites better than Steam? I’ve read all the comments and you have given no valid reason why you don’t use Steam. Disconnect your 56k modem please.

i dont like i said ill buy from their website.always have always will.if i buy from ea and something can easily be taken care of.good luck going through steam.they would probably tell you to contact the dev iditos act like there is nothing out side of steam ,youtube and twitch. i feel sorry for probally dont even know what it was like before the internet.if the internet died you probally couldnt live in this idiot.

all i said was i dont use steam because of it being hacked and people stealing keys and selling least if i buy from the developer i can easily return the game with no hassle.not steams if you played for only 2hr

          • DLConspiracy//
            July 26, 2015 at 6:27 PM

Developers sites get hacked too. Nobody is safe. Btw steam is fine. It wasn’t even hacked with code. It was a tiny error in the password reset. It’s more of a troll and exploit than a hack. All the bug did was lock people out of their online accounts for a few hours..

Here’s the video. It’s been quickly fixed.

Just curious. To each their own. I think it’s worth saying that anywhere can be hacked. It’s a shame you don’t play indies. Some of them are not as indie as you might think. I used to be similar though. I think you should open your palette more. With that said I enjoy steam and it’s community. It just feels connected and a place I can go to play games with people of like interests.

indie games just remind me of the old nes days.the only reason i got a pc is for mmorpg’s.otherwise im on the x1.i can go to a mulitplayer lobby and find people to play with dont need steam.then again im an 40yr old gamer stuck in his ways.

40 year old gamer stuck in your ways and you game on the console only around this past decade? And like most people you probably never even had the original Xbox, you just jumped on board in 2006 when Gears came out.

I bought Unity off Ubisoft directly last year. Worse experience of my life. Game took 2 weeks to arrive and after it did, not even an apology. They even had the cheek to not get back to be for over a week and then said “oh yeah that is on its way to you now”. How could it not be after it took so long to answer? Never buying off them again.

On August, the 23th my Steam account was not accessible anymore. Following Steam procedures i discovered that my Steam email was reset to another one so i couldn’t get into Steam by changing my password. This might happen online, i haven’t blamed anyone (even if, probably, the overall security system is low, given Valve’s online business). However, the worst thing was realizing how little Valve care about hacked accounts. My ticket is well formed and still pending on their support tool. Not even an acknowledgement until today. Not even an answer. I am totally invisible to them. What do i think ? They have REALLY serious and MASSIVE troubles with hackers lately. I’m considering to leave Steam and of course, given my experience, i won’t recommend it to anyone, until they PUBLICLY prove they have less vulnerable security systems.I had about 30 (paid) game titles in Steam.
