Unmasked | Lucifer “Monster” Review
The gloves are coming off in the latest episode from Lucifer. Lucifer is throwing himself into sin; he’s drinking and partying with different women every night at Lux. Although, we’re reminded that with his supernatural metabolism, he’s having a hard time staying drunk. Lucifer clearly wants to forget everything that happened with Uriel, but he’s only moments away from exploding.
This week’s case takes us to a zombie wedding in a cemetery. The zombie bride was gunned down by a sniper. Lucifer finally shows up to the crime scheme but is a complete mess. Chloe even says he looks like a homeless magician. She wonders if he even wants to work the case, and he says that of course he does. Lucifer says that every killer needs to be punished.
When they find their first suspect in the bride’s ex boyfriend, Lucifer locks himself in the interrogation room with the man. While it looks like Lucifer tortures him, it seems that they just had a simple chat. Lucifer got all of the relevant information out of him and believes he’s innocent. But Chloe is pissed. He knows that he can’t act this way, but that sure isn’t stopping him. She knows something is wrong, but of course, he won’t talk to her.
Once they get their second victim, an owner of a food truck, Chloe and Dan realize that they have to find the connection. It turns out the spouses are the connection. The bride’s husband was a lawyer who worked on hospital malpractice cases, and the food truck man’s wife was a doctor at the hospital. Now, they just need to track down the cases that both of the spouses worked. With all of the government regulations, getting the cases proves to be difficult.
Lucifer again takes matters into his own hands, and Dan is furious. Lucifer uses Dan’s badge to obtain the files without going through the proper procedures. Dan reminds Lucifer that he only ever does what he wants to do; he never does what he has to. That was when Lucifer snapped. He punched Dan in the face, and Chloe jumps into action. She tells Lucifer that he’s off the case, and he needs to leave now. Lucifer clearly is upset about killing Uriel, and he took it out on Dan. He believes that he had no choice, and he didn’t want to kill his brother.
Dan and Chloe track down the sniper. Wes Williams is an ATF agent who specializes in long range targeting. His wife was in a clinical drug trial, but she was given a placebo. His wife didn’t get better and died. The hospital and law firm threw out the wrongful death suit. Now, Williams wants to go after the pharmaceutical company. Chloe and Dan try to protect the husband and wife team from Williams, but he already has his rifle set up. Lucifer then shows up and gets in the way. He keeps shouting at Williams to shoot him, but Williams won’t.
When Lucifer asks why Wiliams wouldn’t shoot him, he just replied that Lucifer didn’t deserve it. Williams only wanted the people who killed his wife to suffer like he’s suffering. But, Lucifer realizes that WIlliams really blames himself, and it’s not vengeance that he wants but punishment.
Lucifer finally takes Linda up on her offer to talk about what’s been bothering him. Lucifer has never felt guilt before, and he feels very guilty over killing Uriel. He confesses to Linda and explains that he has never killed anyone before. He has only punished those who were already dead. Linda stops him because she can’t keep track of Lucifer’s metaphors. She gets upset and asks that he be completely honest about who he is. All I have to say is that she asked for it. Lucifer shows his true face. Linda seems completely horrified and doesn’t say a word. Lucifer just leaves, and I’m worried that Linda is not going to snap out of it.
Maze and Trixie had an adorable bonding time this episode. Chloe begged Maze to take Trixie trick or treating, and even though Maze looked like she didn’t want to do it, she clearly had a blast. Chloe set out a princess costume, but Trixie didn’t want to be a princess this year. Maze helps her become the president of Mars. She’s so excited with her new costume, and Maze glares at people to give her more candy. When Trixie is upset that Maze doesn’t have a costume, Maze reveals half of her real face. Of course, Trixie thinks it’s just a mask or make-up and thinks it’s awesome. When Chloe gets home, Trixie and Maze are asleep on the couch together. Maybe living together wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
