5 TV Shows We’re Excited About Coming to Comic Con
Netflix is bringing The Witcher to Hall H on Friday July 19th from 2:15-3:00pm. The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter. The Netflix show is based off the books of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher is set to debut sometime in 2019, so hopefully Netflix will bring some sort of footage for lucky Comic Con goers. And if that isn’t enough incentive, Netflix announced that the panel will be moderated by Yvette Nicole Brown, a sci fi fan herself.
Amazon’s upcoming offering, The Boys, will premiere on July 26th. While The Boys may not be as well known, the plot is something that current media has been exploring lately. The Boys poses the question of what happens when superheroes abuse their powers. Check out the description from Amazon, and check out the trailer below:
“Amazon Original Series “The Boys” is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven, and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets.
When Hughie (Jack Quaid, “The Hunger Games”) suffers a devastating loss at the hands of a reckless Supe his devastation turns to outrage when he discovers there is no legal recourse for victims of collateral superhero damage. While still reeling from his trauma Hughie meets a mysterious operative, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban, “Star Trek”), who recruits him to join in his pursuit of some vigilante justice against the Supes—who are not exactly what they seem.
The Boys are rounded out by Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso, “Detroit”), Frenchie (Tomer Capon, “Hostages”), and The Female (Karen Fukuhara, “Suicide Squad”). Simon Pegg (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout”) guest stars as Hughie’s father.
The Supes of The Seven are led by Homelander (Antony Starr, “Banshee”) who is joined by Starlight (Erin Moriarty, “Captain Fantastic”), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott, “House of Cards”), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher, “Independence Day: Resurgence”), The Deep (Chace Crawford, “Gossip Girl”) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell, “Supernatural”).”
The CW continues to expand their DC universe with Batwoman. Batwoman aka Kate Kane is played by Ruby Rose and is the first time that an openly gay actor is playing a gay superhero on live action television. Batwoman takes place on the same earth as Arrow and The Flash, which will make crossovers much easier. And speaking of the annual crossover event that the CW is famous for, next year has already confirmed to be based on Crisis on Infinite Earths. Check out the CW’s first look at Batwoman below, and hopefully we’ll get more footage during Comic Con. Batwoman will premiere Sunday October 6th on the CW.
For fans of the 2013 movie, TBS is continuing to bring the Snowpiercer world to life. The good news is that TBS has already picked up the show for a second season despite the fact that the first season still hasn’t aired. Check out a description of the show from TBS below:
“Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation based on the acclaimed movie of the same name.
On Saturday, July 20, TBS will present a panel featuring stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Lena Hall, Steven Ogg and executive producer and showrunner Graeme Manson in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront. The session will include an exclusive first look at the series premiere, which will debut in Spring of 2020 on TBS.”

For fans of the book series and newcomers alike, it seems that Nancy Drew will have something for everyone in search of a good mystery. Check out the description from CBS as well as a first look from the CW. Nancy Drew premieres on Wednesday October 9th on the CW.

A supernatural presence begins to haunt Nancy’s investigation, and she discovers that the current crime has an astonishing connection to the unsolved murder of a local girl. Whether the ghost is here to help or hinder Nancy remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Nancy’s going to have to unravel the clues from both the living and the dead to solve the crimes. Please join series stars Kennedy McMann, Leah Lewis, Maddison Jaizani, Alex Saxon and Tunji Kasim, along with executive producers Noga Landau, Melinda Hsu-Taylorand Stephanie Savage for an exclusive sneak peek of the first episode followed by a panel discussion.
