Activision today announced a new game in the popular Guitar Hero series, called Guitar Hero Live. Developed  by FreeStyle Games, Guitar Hero Live is a completely different take on the popular franchise. Instead of the traditional view of your character shredding those wicked licks, the game is taking a first-person, full-motion video approach. The crowd and the band members will react to how you are playing. So if you just can’t hit those notes, Guitar Hero Live will let you know. There is even a function that will allow you to switch between the pre-recorded FMVs to actual streaming video of people watching you play with Guitar Hero TV.

On top of all that, the game play has been altered, slightly. Instead of the colorful six button layout from Hero’s past, there are six black and white buttons this time around, with the three black buttons on top and the three white buttons on the bottom.
Unfortunately, due to the change in gameplay mechanics, the older Guitar Hero DLC and hardware won’t work for the series’ return to the stage.
Guitar Hero Live is set for a Fall 2015 release for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the Wii U. There is also talk of a mobile version, but nothing on that yet.
