Supergirl’s latest episode, “Myriad,†shows Non and Astra’s plan finally coming together in National City. With next week being the freshman drama’s season finale, “Myriad,†was an episode full of dramatic build up. Last week we saw the people of National City all headed somewhere, acting as if they were under the influence of mind control.
Myriad has officially begun, and the DEO is no exception. Kara finds everyone at the DEO letting out all of the alien prisoners. When Kara tries to snap Lucy out of the trance, she fires kryptonite bullets at Supergirl. Now what? Unsure of what to do, Kara goes to search for answers in the Fortress of Solitude. Alura, or a projection of Kara’s mother, tells Kara that Myriad was Astra’s design, and once started, it can’t be stopped. The technology in Myriad is designed to force people into Astra’s way of thinking, and it can be used to enslave entire worlds at the touch of a button.
Kara goes to CatCo in hopes of getting any help from her friends. Everyone at CatCo has been affected by Myriad, that is until Cat Grant walks in. She starts talking to Supergirl as if she were talking to her assistant, but then she wonders why Supergirl is there. Cat didn’t notice that all of her employees are zombies. But why isn’t Cat affected? Maxwell Lord walks in and isn’t affected either. He explains that he has an ion blocker around his ear that is protecting him from Myriad. It just so happens that he sent Cat earrings with the same blockers in them. It’s a good thing she wore them.

Lord has a plan to get rid of the aliens, but his plan would kill them and potentially hundreds of thousands of National City residents. Realizing that his worst fears have come to pass, Lord reveals that he has been working on a weapon of mass destruction against the aliens. It’s essentially a kryptonite nuclear bomb that will kill the aliens, including Supergirl. Supergirl could leave the city, but the radiation from the bomb would prohibit her from returning for many years. Plus, innocent civilians will die from the explosion of the bomb even if the radiation is harmless to humans.
Meanwhile, Alex and J’onn are on the run. Thankfully, he can disguise himself as anyone. They go see Alex’s mom, Eliza Danvers. Eliza fills them in on what’s happening in National City. Alex introduces Eliza to J’onn J’onzz and explains his connection to her late husband. Of course since Eliza was a scientist, she has about a thousand questions. But there’s no time to explain; they have to get to National City to help Kara. J’onn knows that he won’t be affected by Myriad, and Alex convinces him to take her with him. J’onn can use his telepathic powers to protect her mind from the effects of Myriad.
Back at CatCo, Non shows up to prove that Kara can’t stop his plan. Non realizes how much she cares for the humans of her city. He sends three of them to jump off of the building, and unfortunately, Kara is only able to save Winn and James in time. An innocent woman has now died because of Myriad. Non thinks that he is creating peace on Earth. He explains that now everyone is working toward one goal: saving the planet.

At this point, Kara is confused with what to do about Lord’s bomb. Either she acts and uses the bomb, or she does nothing. On Krypton, her mother was faced with a similar situation. Alura promised to save Krypton, but their planet died. She doesn’t want to make the wrong choice. Cat gives Supergirl the boost that she needs. Cat says, “You’ve taught me that hope is stronger than fear… You’ve changed me, and I am not easy to change. And I believe that you can change everyone out there… Just be Supergirl. That’s all anyone’s ever needed from you.†From that, Cat gave Supergirl an idea. She wants to use Cat’s old radio station to broadcast a signal to the people of National City. She wants to inspire people to knock them out of the Myriad daze.
Unfortunately when Alex and J’onn arrive, they are met by Indigo. J’onn is wasting too much energy trying to protect Alex’s mind, and he becomes vulnerable. Indigo ends up stabbing him, and he is knocked unconscious, hopefully not dead. Within a matter of seconds, Alex’s mind is turned over to Myriad. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone who knew what was going on was still on the outside untouched by Myriad? I guess Alex should have listened when J’onn didn’t want her to go with him.
Now that Alex is susceptible, Non sends her to fight Kara. By outfitting Alex with a kryptonite suit, she’s an even match with her kryptonian sister. Non knows that Alex killed Astra, and he wants Alex to die. Non tells Kara that either she kills Alex, or Alex will kill her. There is so way out of this one.
