Dune is a property of which needs no introduction. Frank Herbert’s masterpiece has only continued to explode in popularity with the Denis Villeneuve directed film. The Video Game industry has continued that trend of reinvigorating the IP with the 4x game Dune: Spice Wars by Funcom, Shiro Games. Funcom looks to further that expansion with their upcoming open world survival MMO, Dune: Awakening which is inspired by both Frank Herbert’s book and Villeneuve’s movie.
In Dune: Awakening players will:
Rise from survival to dominance in a vast and seamless Arrakis shared by thousands of players. Dune: Awakening combines the grit and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of a large, persistent multiplayer game to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO.
Of all big Sci-Fi properties, Frank Herbert’s Dune is a perfect game to transition into a survival-based MMORPG. I’m particularly interested in the social aspects of surviving the dangerous deserts of Arrakis.
The game is in a Pre-Alpha phase, so it does not yet have a release date.
You can wishlist the game on Steam and sign up for the beta.
