Supergirl never fails to deliver drama and heart. There is no exception with “Childish Things.†The villain known as Toyman has broken out of prison, potentially killing three guards on his way out. To make matters worse, Toyman just happens to be Winn’s father, Winslow Schott Sr. And let’s not forget that Maxwell Lord is doing some experiment on a young girl hidden in the mysterious room 52 at Lord Technologies.
My favorite character, Winn, had an emotional ride this week. He faced a lot of big fears. His dad left him emotionally scarred and angry. After the FBI showed up at Catco, Winn reveals that he found a toy on his desk. It was a message from his dad asking Winn to meet him at their favorite spot. He talks to Kara about how angry his dad made him. Winslow Schott Sr took revenge against his boss when his boss stole his toy designs. To get back at his boss, Winslow Schott Sr sent him a bomb hidden inside of a toy. Unfortunately, his assistant  opened the package, killing her and five other people in the room.
Winn decides to help the FBI capture his father. He knows that his father is not well and doesn’t want him to hurt anyone else. When Winn faces his father, he tries to get him to turn himself in to the FBI. The Toyman tells his son that he broke out of prison for him. He tells Winn, “My son. My boy. My greatest work.†He then tells Winn to run as the toys in the arcade spray out a poisonous gas and what we thought was the Toyman crumbled revealing that his father was never really there. Supergirl comes in and sucks up the gas, dispersing it high above the city and away from Winn and the FBI.

Kara does everything she can to be there for Winn. She says, “Please just let me be there for you like you’ve always been there for me.†Winn sits down with Kara to try and figure out what to do about his dad. He doesn’t want the FBI to kill his father, so he asks for Kara’s help to try and find his father first. Winn then tries to kiss Kara, and she pulls away. Winn leaves her apartment in a rush, feeling bad for letting that happen. Of course, they are a step behind because after leaving Kara, Winn is kidnapped. His father then shares his master plan for his son.
Winn is to take a toy into Toycon, a local toy convention, and murder Winslow Sr’s former boss. If Winn does not kill him, the Toyman will explode 10 different toy bombs in the convention. What is so troubling about the Toyman is that he doesn’t really care what happens to Winn. He tells Winn that whatever happens they will be together. They either escape, die, or end up in jail, but they will be together. Winn clearly has no idea what to do and ends up at the convention looking horrified. Thankfully, Supergirl and the FBI aren’t far behind. Supergirl saves Winn from the FBI’s bullets, before turning her attention on the 10 toy bombs. I love when Supergirl uses a bunch of her powers to save the day. In this case, she uses heat vision to set off the sprinklers; then, she uses her super cold breath to freeze the water creating an ice barrier between the bombs and the crowd. And the day is saved again.
But, not so fast. Winn and Kara’s relationship is still up in the air. Winn feels bad for trying to kiss Kara. Kara says that it doesn’t matter, but Winn pushes back saying that it does matter. Winn is worried that because his father kept his feelings bottled up, it caused him to explode. And Winn doesn’t want that to happen to himself. He was always too scared to tell Kara about his feelings but not anymore. He tells Kara that he’s in love with her, and he has been since before she was Supergirl. Kara doesn’t share his feelings and doesn’t want anything to change. Winn says that he’s not sure that he can just go back to how things were before this whole ordeal with his father. Kara asks, “What does this mean for us?†Winn just replies, “I don’t know.â€

Meanwhile, Alex and Hank Henshaw are trying to figure out what Maxwell Lord is hiding in room 52. Alex decides to set up a meeting with Lord to put all of their cards on the table. This way, she can get him away from Lord Technologies while Henshaw breaks into room 52. As a shapeshifter, Henshaw has no problem impersonating Lord to enter room 52. He finds the girl, but a guard catches him. Henshaw takes the guards memories before escaping. Now he feels bad for hurting another person.
Alex and Kara end the episode by sharing a nice sister bonding moment. Alex feels bad for pushing Hank to help her go after Maxwell Lord. What they don’t know is that Lord had security cameras that no one knew about. He watched the imposter of himself going into that room. As if that weren’t bad enough, Lord bugged Alex’s purse. He was watching their entire interaction and now knows exactly who Supergirl is to Alex Danvers.
