This week, Lucifer experienced a very human reaction, jealousy, in “Et Tu, Doctor?” Thankfully, their case involves a death based on jealousy. Lucifer thinks this is the perfect time where he can learn why humans feel jealousy. While the case is less than enticing, the surrounding plot lines are propelling this series forward.

Lucifer is certain that something must be wrong with Chloe. Lucifer describes to Linda that he feels like a large man is sitting on his chest when he sees Chloe with her ex-husband, Dan. Linda says it’s obviously jealousy, but Lucifer says that the devil doesn’t get jealous. When a therapist is murdered, Lucifer uses this as the opportunity for Linda to fix Chloe. They need another therapist to go through Dr. Shaw’s files to protect doctor patient confidentiality. Lucifer just sleeps with the judge in order to get Linda assigned to the case.

Now, Dr. Shaw had an interesting therapy technique. He wanted married couples to cheat on one another to repair their relationships. It seems that his patients for the most part were happy with his methods. Unfortunately, Dr. Shaw was trying out his methods with his own marriage. While his wife was actually okay with his affair, she was not happy that he fell in love with the woman he was sleeping with. She was completely distraught, but she still wasn’t the one who killed him.

Here’s where our jealousy theme fits. Another therapist, Jonathan, was in love with Dr. Shaw’s wife. When he saw how Dr. Shaw was treating her, he was overcome with rage. Jonathan knew that Dr. Shaw didn’t deserve her love, so he killed him. Jonathan explains all of this to Lucifer, and Lucifer decides that his situation is completely different. This must mean that Lucifer couldn’t possibly be jealous.

This week, Linda and Mazikeen got to meet face to face. Linda knew exactly who Maze was and was not intimidated one bit. Maze is rude to Linda, but she replies, “People who are rude usually feel powerless in their own lives.” Of course, Maze appreciates Linda’s candidness and said she liked her. When Lucifer keeps pestering Linda to fix Chloe, she says that there’s nothing wrong with Chloe. Chloe is just a woman juggling a lot of things. She’s doing just fine. Now all of the women seem to be against Lucifer. Poor thing.

After all is said and done, Lucifer goes to see Linda because he forgot her payment of sex. She decides that they should keep their relationship professional. He’s confused, but he figures if that’s what she wants, then it’s fine with him. He asks her about the new doctor who moved in across the hall. When Linda describes Dr. Canaan (how biblical indeed), Lucifer realizes it’s Amenadiel. He knows now that Maze betrayed him by having Amenadiel keep an eye on him through Linda. He tells Maze that they are done. She looks very upset; what will she do now?

We got our answer this week on Malcolm’s fate. Not only is he alive, but he seems better than ever. Paolucci said it perfectly, “Heaven didn’t want him, and Hell couldn’t keep him.” Somehow Malcolm got into Chloe’s house and lured her there pretending to be Dan needing help. Malcolm claims that he was buying information, and the criminal was a Confidential Informant that he had used previously. Chloe doesn’t seem convinced, but Malcolm swears that he was buying intel on a crooked cop. He warns her to not get involved and to let the case go.

Chloe doesn’t seem to want to let anything go. She still discusses things with Dan and tries to figure out how the cop who shot Malcolm arrived at the warehouse. Chloe realized that Malcolm’s partner, Anthony Paolucci, would have been able to locate Malcolm by using the GPS tracker in his gear. Paolucci’s car is parked at the Paddock bar. Inside, Chloe and Dan find Paolucci dead of an apparent suicide. He left a suicide note explaining that he was the crooked cop who shot Malcolm. Paolucci claims that Malcolm was onto him, and when Malcolm woke up, he couldn’t take the guilt. Chloe doesn’t seem to believe the suicide note, but what else can she do at this point?

Later, Dan was lured out to meet Malcolm. All of a sudden, Malcolm’s entire demeanor changes. It seems that he isn’t the nice easy going cop that everyone presumed. Malcolm admits to staging Paolucci’s suicide and writing his suicide note. Whether he pulled the trigger or just made Paolucci kill himself is unclear, but it is certain that Malcolm is not a good guy. Malcolm reveals that Dan was the one who shot him. He likes Dan, so he didn’t tell anyone. But, it’s clear that Dan is in over his head. Malcolm has big plans for Dan. This opens so many questions! Is Dan crooked? Malcolm seems crooked, but is that why he was giving money to a criminal? I can’t tell if Dan was really a bad guy or just in over his head. In any case, it’s only a matter of time before Chloe finds out. At that point, maybe having the devil on your side won’t be such a bad thing.
