In a Konami pre-E3 presentation teaser they revealed that Kiefer Sutherland will be the new voice of Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Snake will be 49 years old in this upcoming sequel; Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid series producer, has felt that Kiefer could genuinely project the voice and tone Snake would have at his middle age.
MGSV will get a little more edgy than previous entries of the series, tackling modern and new mature themes. “We’re taking on some heavy subjects, like race and revenge. As a result, I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice, rather than words.” – said Kojima.
