The much-anticipated Mortal Kombat 11 reveal did not disappoint. From a handful of character reveals, extensive gear customization and tweaks to the overall gameplay, the reveal provided just enough to further whet our appetite for the release.
As with all NetherRealm titles, the cast is in flux. They revealed that various mainstay characters are returning (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden and Sonya Blade), a couple MK9 favorites come back (Baraka and Skarlet) and two new characters were revealed (Geras and Kronika). Note that this is only what was shown. More characters will be revealed as we near the release of Mortal Kombat 11. Based on character select screen, it appears that there will be 25 characters on launch, and there will certainly be DLC packs thereafter.
Also, for the first time, the game will feature the voice of a celebrity athlete in Ronda Rousey. It might be slightly past the time of her superstardom period when she was arm-barring the women’s UFC division, but it’s still cool nonetheless.
Geras, a time-bending character seems to have a unique skill set. He is able to zone well enough, as well as go toe-to-toe with anyone. He has an interesting kit utilizing some sort of time-control as well as the ability to conjure sand walls and portals.
A game is nothing without its characters, and NetherRealm is absolutely masterclass at propping them up by delving through their twisted story lines in the story mode. Per usual, Mortal Kombat 11 is set to feature a beefy story jumping off right from the conclusion of MK9. Their ability to conquer an absolute bonkers story line always leads to some hilariously brutal moments.
Mortal Kombat 11 is set to release on April 23, 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
