The latest Nintendo Direct was chock full of information, and those waiting for more information on amiibo should be pleased. Not only was another wave announced, we also get a slew of new amiibo, can play some classic Nintendo titles with them and amiibo cards were officially revealed. Check out the information from the Nintendo Press Release below:

– Doubling Down On The Amiibo Craze With Cards.
AmiiboCards
Why stop at figures when you can add in cards! Since Nintendo’s roots do lie within the playing card business, I suppose it was only logical. The first set of cards are based off the ever popular Animal Crossing series and will be compatible with the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer game. Nintendo stated that, “An NFC reader/writer peripheral for Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS – which offers the functionality for scanning amiibo currently included in the New Nintendo 3DS XL system – will also launch the same day as the new Animal Crossing game.”

-Another Wave Arrives
AmiiboWave
On May 29, Nintendo will launch a new set of amiibo in the Super Smash Bros. series. Those joining the lineup are: Charizard, PAC-MAN, Wario, Jigglypuff, Greninja, Robin, Lucina and Ness. July brings Dark Pit and Palutena. And in September, Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf, Olimar, Dr. Mario and Bowser Jr.

-Play Classic Titles Using Amiibo with Amiibo Tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits
amiiboTap
The free application, downloadable via the eShop will allow you to tap any amiibo to the gamepad to unlock gameplay highlights from classic NES and Super NES titles. The interesting feature is that each amiibo is randomly paired with a gameplay highlight. As Iwata said, “ like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.”

New Titles, New Amiibo
YarnYoshi
Yarn Yoshi will be the first amiibo that won’t be made of plastic; instead if will be made of, well…yarn. By tapping the Yarn Yoshi to the gamepad, it will bring another Yarn Yoshi into Yoshi’s Wooly World game which will assist the player in various ways. The Yarn Yoshi amiibo will be available in three colors: green, pink and light blue.
Splatoonamiibo
Splatoon will also have three amiibo which will release alongside the title on May 29. Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy and Inkling Squid will be sold together, or you can buy Inkling Girl and Inkling boy separately.

– More Mii Racing Suits Based On Classic Franchises
MarioKart8Amiibo
A free downloadable update to Mario Kart 8 will add nine more amiibo figures outfits to the game which include Mega Man, Sonic and Pac-Man. If you have these amiibo and tap your gamepad, your Mii will take on the iconic outfits. The update will go live on April 23.
