Nintendo has announced that former President Hiroshi Yamauchi has passed away at the age of 85 years old. The third President of the company was born in Kyoto, Japan which is where the headquarters are. Yamauchi-san took on the role at a young age in 1949. At this point in time Nintendo was still a trading card company. Under his Presidency the company had moved into the interactive digital entertainment industry, clocking in in the late 70s.
Nintendo’s arcade products and Donkey Kong, which Yamauchi-san had entrusted Shigeru Miyamoto with, had come during his time at Nintendo too. Yamauchi-san had stepped down on May 31st, 2002. He remained the chairman of the board until 2005 and was the biggest shareholder thereafter.
