Lucifer delivered a hair raising episode this week with “St Lucifer.” Lucifer not only faces his mortality but realizes how good it feels to do good. He continues to look for this rush after not taking advantage of Chloe in her drunken state.

When Chloe wakes up in Lucifer’s apartment, she is completely confused and equally embarrassed. Considering she is naked, she assumes the worst, and Lucifer has a bit of fun before revealing that nothing happened. Afterwards, though, he is on a high from rejecting her. He works throughout the entirety of their new case to feel that high again.

When Chloe and Lucifer investigate the murder of a wealthy philanthropist, Tim Dunlear, Lucifer thinks that he has found a kindred spirit. Of course, he doesn’t realize that they do good for different reasons. While Tim was helping underprivileged kids, Lucifer is only trying to make himself feel better and look better in the eyes of others. This way of thinking clearly clouds Lucifer’s judgment, and he starts to assume that anyone who has anything to do with the Dunlear foundation must be a good person.

Lucifer offers to host a benefit for the foundation at Lux. He encourages Dunlear’s widow, Vanessa, and her assistant, Kyle, that this is what Tim would have wanted. They go along with his schemes, but when Lucifer takes the celebration too far at a luncheon for the gold members of the foundation, Kyle breaks down. He doesn’t understand how everyone can be so happy when Tim is dead. He and Tim were in love. Tim and Vanessa had an arrangement during th it marriage. Tim could hide his sexuality, and Vanessa could continue to use the Dunlear’s good name for the brand they created.

With Lucifer’s focus on the foundation rather than the murder, Chloe finds herself more alone than ever on this case. Lucifer no longer seems to care who murdered Tim; he’s only looking to feel better about himself. Chloe lets Lucifer know that she misses the way he used to be, before all of these good deeds went to his head. She tells him that at least he had her back then.

Meanwhile, both Dan and Malcolm have gotten themselves in precarious situations. Malcolm is holding Dan hostage while he frames Dan for Lucifer’s murder. It’s all too easy since Malcolm has a murder weapon with Dan’s prints on it. Not to mention, Dan has motive, what with Lucifer being so close to his ex wife and all. Thankfully, Dan escapes, but not before Malcolm gets to Lucifer.

Lucifer drops a bombshell on Malcolm. Malcolm assumes that Amenadiel will kill him if he doesn’t kill Lucifer. Alas, angels can’t kill mortals, so there really wasn’t any danger. But when Malcolm does die for good, he will return to hell, this time for eternity. Lucifer offers up his pentecostal coin as a get out of jail free card. He was going to use it to get back to hell one day, but Malcolm can use it to get out. Malcolm takes the coin and leaves Lucifer unharmed.

Lucifer meets with Vanessa before the start of the benefit, and he’s too late to put together the pieces. Vanessa was embezzling money from the foundation, money that was supposed to build a school in Haiti. Tim found out and confronted her before she killed him. When lucifer makes the right assumptions, she puts three bullets in his chest. Arriving fashionably late, Dan gets to Lucifer as he’s lying on the ground. Lucifer wakes up without a scratch on him or a drop of blood. Now it’s time to re-team with Chloe and take down the murderer.

Mazikeen had an interesting time this week. Lucifer is still mad at her. When she says he can’t be mad at her forever, he replies, “Oh but I can. It’s one of the luxuries of being the devil.” So instead, she goes to see the only other person with whom she can be real. She ruins Amenadiel’s dinner alone and even talks about how boring he is. Amenadiel tries to prove himself, and they end up sleeping together.

When Maze gets back to Lux, Lucifer recognizes the bed head immediately. She reveals that she slept with his brother, but Lucifer still agrees to start talking to her again. Maze explains that she can be his inside woman, now that she has Amenadiel right where she wants him. Lucifer reveals that he got shot but didn’t die. Both of them are confused by his sudden immortality resurfacing. But Lucifer has an idea what is causing his mortality.

As a test, Lucifer goes to see Chloe. She is happy to see the real Lucifer again. It’s nice to see their relationship is mostly back to normal. He has a theory that Chloe is the reason for his mortality, so he takes a knife with himself to test out this theory. Chloe explains that she can actually be herself around Lucifer and open up to him in a way that she can’t with anyone else. She tells Lucifer that she’s vulnerable around him. Lucifer uses the knife behind his back to try and cut his hand. When it works, Lucifer says that he’s vulnerable around her too. What will Lucifer do with this new revelation?
