We got to see even more emotions from Lucifer in “A Priest Walks into a Bar.†Before Chloe and Lucifer get a new case, he speaks with his resident therapist, Linda. Lucifer tells her about his latest party and how he didn’t want to partake in the festivities like he used to. Linda says that he sounds lonely. When Lucifer says that’s not possible since he’s never alone, Linda tells him that there is a big difference between being alone and feeling lonely. Lucifer realizes that he doesn’t really have any friends, which makes this case even more upsetting.
So a priest walks into a bar. Could it get any better than this? Lucifer meets Father Frank when he comes to Lux asking for a favor. Lucifer is shocked, but Father Frank says, “People tell me you’re the man to see when you’ve run out of options.†Father Frank is convinced that the youth center where he helps children is being used as a drug ring. Father Frank is sure that the youth director, Arrieta, is the one luring these children into his drug organization. Lucifer says no to Father Frank but still looks into the youth center with Chloe in hand. They find Arrieta dead, and he was definitely murdered. At this point, Lucifer is trying to find some reason why Father Frank is a bad guy.
Lucifer and Chloe go to Father Frank’s church to confront him about Arrieta’s death. Lucifer decides that he should go take a woman’s confession. She’s having lustful thoughts about her husband’s limo driver. While Father Frank encouraged her to be faithful, Lucifer thought she should give in to her desires. Thankfully, Chloe drags him away before he can do more damage. When they try to leave, someone attempts to gun down Father Frank outside of the church. It looks like Father Frank is a victim after all.
To keep him safe, Lucifer convinces Father Frank to stay at Lux. Lucifer thought for sure that this would make Father Frank ridiculously uncomfortable, but he took it all in stride. Father Frank even wanted to play the piano. Lucifer and Father Frank play together, and they start to form a nice bond. Father Frank tells Lucifer why he’s so dedicated to helping the children in the youth center. Years ago, Father Frank was in a deadly car accident. Everyone in the car was killed except for him and his friend’s son, Connor. Father Frank was worried that Connor was involved in the drug ring and only wanted to set him on the right path.
It turns out that another counselor at the youth center named himself the Spider and started a rival drug ring against Arrieta. He’s the one who killed Arrieta. The Spider wanted Connor to kill Father Frank to get him out of the way, but Connor couldn’t do it. Father Frank reminded Connor that there is always time for a second chance. Sadly, the Spider doesn’t care and shoots Father Frank. Lucifer gets extremely angry and runs to Father Frank. Unfortunately, Father Frank died in his arms.
Later, Lucifer is so frustrated that he starts talking to God. He’s furious that Father Frank died. Lucifer tells God that Father Frank followed his stupid rules, and it still wasn’t enough. Lucifer goes on to say, “Doesn’t matter whether you’re a sinner. Doesn’t matter if you’re a saint… What’s the bloody point?†I think that Lucifer was finally finding a friend, and he was gone in the blink of an eye.
Now, we have even more confirmation that Amenadiel was the one who resurrected Malcolm. Malcolm was officially dead and in hell, for a brief 30 seconds. He made a deal with Amenadiel, and the angel is ready to collect. Malcolm is enjoying his newfound freedom, but Amenadiel assures him that he needs to fulfill his promise. Malcolm ropes Dan into his mess, even though Dan doesn’t know the extent of his problem. Dan gets Malcolm an untraceable gun from their evidence locker. When Malcolm shows it to Amenadiel he asks who he needs to kill. Amenadiel says, “His name is Lucifer Morningstar.†So I guess Amenadiel found a way out of his post in hell. He just needs someone to kill Lucifer, so Lucifer will be back in hell. Why do I have a feeling that Malcolm’s days are numbered?
We may have learned a bit more about Dan. It seems that he wasn’t necessarily a crooked cop. Malcolm said that he looked the other way a few times. Dan did shoot Malcolm, but it was to protect Chloe. He knew that Chloe was at the scene and Malcolm heard her. He would have killed Chloe had Dan not shot him first. Not only does he have Malcolm to worry about, Dan also has to think about Chloe and Trixie. He and Chloe shared a kiss that she thought was a big deal. Hopefully, he won’t hurt her again because of Malcolm.
