Makers of the extremely successful game “MineCraft”, developers Mojang have released the beta of their next IP titled “Scrolls.”  The beta follows the same type of  archetype as Minecraft where you can pay for the full game at a discounted price while in beta and watch the game grow in quality and price leading to it’s release. This game is drastically different from “Minecraft” in the case that its a trading card(technically trading scroll) game. The game follows a similar model to “Magic: The Gathering”  where you have 3 different types of resource factions to make decks with.
I decided to give this game a try since it was from Mojang and looked like a game I could relax and play and I was right on the money with this one. Scrolls is unique in the case that each scroll is summoned on strategic points on each player’s 3×5 board/map. The way to win is by destroying the 3 of the 5 monuments at the back of your opponents lines(each with 10 hp). Coming from games that can take up to an hour, like DOTA 2 and League of Legends, Scrolls is truly a breath of fresh air. With matches taking anywhere from 10-30 minutes, you can easily play a quick couple of games if you’re bored. Playing Scrolls has made me forget what time it was on plenty of nights. What I thought was about 20 games played in 2 nights was actually 60. You can purchase Scrolls straight from the Mojang site for $20. If you’re into the genre and want to grow with a game that’s pretty fun to play, I would recommend this game to you.
