Supergirl gave us a great surprise this week when they introduced us to the President, played by the wonderful Lynda Carter. Naturally, Supergirl is nervous to meet the President. It will be up to her to keep the President safe while in National City, especially when an alien threatens to stop her from signing the Alien Amnesty Act, which will give American rights to alien citizens.
When the President lands, her Secret Service detail is immediately attacked. Supergirl comes to save the President, but they can’t find the attacker. To make matters worse, the attacker was clearly an alien with some sort of heat vision type weapon. This puts the eye squarely on any Kryptonians. The DEO just so happens to have a Kryptonian on the loose after Mon-El easily escaped the building that same morning.
After the attack, we got to meet the new detective in town, Maggie Sawyer. At first, she’s a royal thorn in Alex’s side. She asserts herself into the investigation once the President’s life is in danger, but Alex tries to keep her away. It isn’t until Alex realizes that Maggie might actually have useful information that she begins to trust her. Maggie takes Alex to a dive bar where aliens come to feel free to be themselves.
When they discover that Mon-El is not the one attacking the President, they find information about the alien from the bar. The woman behind the attack thinks that the Alien Amnesty Act is a bad thing. She believes that with the Amnesty Act, all aliens will be required to be registered. She reminds Supergirl that she hides her identity for a reason. Ironically, she actually seems to have a point, assuming that alien registration would be a requirement following the act.
When Kara and the DEO finally catch up with Mon-El, they find out that he’s from Daxam. Krypton and Daxam are sister planets, but they are the furthest thing from family. The two planets have been feuding for years. Kara judges Mon-El from being a Daxamite, and Mon-El shrugs her off as another high and mighty Kryptonian. It’s pretty unclear where and how this feud began, but Kara slowly realizes that she shouldn’t judge Mon-El for being from Daxam. Now that Daxam is a wasteland, they are both stranded on Earth. The two make peace, and hopefully, Mon-El will continue to have an interesting plotline moving forward.
Meanwhile, CatCo is officially in James Olsen’s hands whether he was ready for the responsibility or not. During his first staff meeting, James asks for headlines, but Snapper Carr doesn’t agree with that approach. Snapper completely snakes the meeting and gives out assignments while completely disrespecting James. Everyone listens to Snapper, and the meeting is over. James is completely discouraged.
Kara gives him some great advice. She reminds James that Cat Grant gave him her job for a reason; she trusted James. She didn’t want James to run CatCo exactly like she did. James needs to be the boss that he wants to be. During the next meeting, James doesn’t take any crap from Snapper. James reminds Snapper that he has complete editorial power, and all he wants is respect in the workplace. Snapper begrudgingly agrees, and it seems that James is starting to feel more comfortable in his new position.
J’onn seems to be tired of hiding as a human even if it makes people comfortable seeing him in his human form. He decides to go to the dive bar as the Martian Manhunter. When he asks for a drink from the bartender, she seems horrified. He worries that she doesn’t like his alien form, but then he realizes that she looks familiar. He follows her out of the bar where she introduces herself. She is M’gann M’orzz, last daughter of Mars. Obviously they are both from Mars, but is there a familial connection between these two?!
