When a murder happens at a psychiatric facility, Lucifer and Chloe run into a potential suspect. He just so happens to think he’s God. He even changed his name to God Johnson. Lucifer plans to find out if there’s any truth to this, or if God Johnson is just another insane human.

God Johnson found the victim, but Chloe knows it’s going to be difficult to talk to a mental patient without a court order. Lucifer ignores this and talks to him anyway. Lucifer tries to use his powers of persuasion to figure out God Johnson’s desires, but they aren’t working. When God calls Lucifer by his given name, Samael, Lucifer actually wonders if this could be his father. At this point, Lucifer decides to take the initiative and gets himself institutionalized alongside his supposed father.

After Lucifer sees God Johnson heal a woman in the psych hospital, he’s convinced that he must be his father. Once Lucifer is convinced that God Johnson is his father, he slugs him. God doesn’t understand why Lucifer is asking him for an apology. God is confused why Lucifer thinks that he has no free will. Lucifer is livid and says that everything is always according to God’s plan, right? He talks about his mother, Charlotte, being here on Earth, which is a surprise to God. He tells Lucifer that he still remembers meeting his mother for the first time. Lucifer sees the love that his father still has and develops a new plan.

Charlotte is clearly bored waiting for Lucifer to find her a way home. She ends up looking to Dan for some fun. He’s definitely not having it, especially when she eats his pudding. His rejection only makes him more appealing in her eyes. Thankfully, her son is about to bring her husband back to her. Lucifer enlists help from Linda and the other mental patients at the hospital to break God Johnson out. Lucifer wants to help God and Charlotte recreate their first date. All seems to go well until Chloe breaks up the party to take God Johnson back to the psych ward. Lucifer gets to go back to be on a 72 hour watch.

Back at the hospital, the real killer is still on the loose. The woman that God saved claimed that Santa Claus was the one who tried to kill her. When Chloe hears this, she tries to convince the doctor to talk about his patients over a date. Of course, he figures her out and is upset that she wouldn’t just be straightforward with him. Eventually, they realize that the hospital has a Santa Claus costume that they bring out every year for Christmas. A nurse at the hospital is the killer, and she has her sights set on God and Lucifer.

The nurse is there because of her mother. She says her mother was manipulative and made her life a living hell, so she got her revenge. She drugged her mom and drove her crazy. Lucifer tells her that he knows what it’s like to hate his parents, which God Johnson is confused by. He doesn’t remember why he was so angry with Lucifer in the first place. He tells Lucifer that he’s proud of the man he has become. The nurse decides to take off God Johnson’s belt, and something strange happens. Once his belt clangs to the floor, God Johnson goes back to being the oil magnet that he really is. He has no recollection of anything that happened while he assumed he was God Johnson. It looks like the piece on his belt buckle was a piece of the flaming sword. The piece fits perfectly on the blade, but it doesn’t stay on. What now?
