Lucifer’s “A Good Day to Die†was my favorite episode this season. The winter finale is exciting and terrifying at the same time. Chloe has been poisoned, and with the professor dead, they are seemingly out of options. Chloe’s loved ones must band together to save her from the designer poison.
When Lucifer finds Chloe suffering from the poison’s effects, he wants to take her straight to a hospital. Chloe has a different idea. If she’s lying in a hospital bed, she can’t be out looking for an antidote. They go straight to Ella and ask if there’s any chance that someone could have been dosed with the poison. Ella lets them know that there is no antidote. She also describes what death from the poison is like, and it’s excruciating.
Lucifer and Chloe go to see the man who smuggled the poisons for the professor. He’s on house arrest and throwing parties every day until the trial. Well Lucifer is about to crash his party, and he is not excited to see Lucifer’s face again. Lucifer “questions†the smuggler and gets the name of the person who smuggled the antidotes. At this point, Chloe’s symptoms are too great, and she has to be hospitalized. Dan finds out that Chloe has been poisoned and is pissed that Lucifer didn’t bring her to a hospital right away, but they have to put their feelings aside and work together.
They find the smuggler of the antidote, but he ties up Dan and Lucifer. Of course, Lucifer can get out of the handcuffs, but he promised to not do anything without Dan’s permission. He let Dan get beat up until he was “allowed†to get them out. The smuggler of the antidotes says that his true desire is for someone to buy his art because they actually like it. Lucifer agrees to buy some art in exchange for the ingredients to the antidote. The smuggler may have given them the ingredients, but without the specific formula, an antidote is helpless. The only one who knew the formula was the professor, but he’s dead.
This is when things get crazy. Lucifer realizes the one way to get the professor’s formula is to ask him… in Hell. If Lucifer dies, he can go to Hell and get the formula. Charlotte decides to not be part of this, but Amenadiel, Linda, and Maze are all in to help him. They set up in the hospital room underneath Chloe’s where Lucifer is vulnerable. Maze is all set to use the defibrillator to stop Lucifer’s heart, but she can’t do it. Lucifer ends up killing himself. He has 60 seconds in Hell before they try to revive him; although, time is slower there.
Lucifer finds the professor. He is in his own version of Hell where he relives the worst decision of his life. He relives the day of his car crash where he chose his dissertation over saving an innocent college student. Lucifer lets him know that he can ease his guilt by giving over the formula. The professor gives the formula, but it doesn’t help his guilty conscience. While Lucifer is waiting to be brought back from the dead, he gets too curious. He wanders into a cell where he finds his brother, Uriel.
Lucifer ends up in his own Hell where he feels guilty for killing his brother. Lucifer knows he needs to go help the detective, but he can’t get out. When Linda and Maze can’t bring him back, Charlotte knows that something is wrong. She decides to help and offers to go down to Hell to pull Lucifer out. This time, Maze doesn’t hesitate in killing her. Charlotte tells Lucifer that Uriel’s death isn’t his fault. She says that everything is her fault. This helps to snap Lucifer out of it, but Charlotte wants to stay with Uriel. Lucifer manages to get them out of the cell, and Linda brings them both back.
Lucifer gets the formula to Ella, and an antidote is made. Chloe will live to see another day. When she wakes up, Chloe thanks Lucifer for saving his life. He assures her it was a team effort. She’s ready to pick up where they left off, but Lucifer tells her that she needs to focus on feeling better. Lucifer still doesn’t believe that his relationship with Chloe is real. He tells Charlotte that he’s done being caught in the middle of the feud between his parents, whatever that means.
