Lucifer is working with his mother and Amenadiel on their plan to go home to Heaven. They plan to ignite Azrael’s blade into the flaming sword. The sword can cut through the gates of Heaven. Chloe is still dealing with her frustrations with Lucifer, while they tackle a new case where the Head of Administrations at a private school was murdered.

Charlotte believes that Lucifer just needs to get angry in order to activate the flaming sword. He needs to control his emotions, but Lucifer can’t do figure out how to do that. His first thought it to go see Linda. Linda explains that emotions can’t really be controlled. Lucifer has a ton of walls up, and Linda can’t help him until his brings them down. Lucifer isn’t ready to do that, and there has been another murder.

Debbie Lang, the Head of Administrations at a private school was stabbed in the back. Lucifer is bored with the case because he can’t figure out how to control the blade. It isn’t until he hears that at the school they teach the kids to control their emotions that Lucifer is interested in the case. Lucifer realizes that he needs to know what the teachers at this school, Starford, are teaching the kids.

Lucifer decides to take Trixie on a mission. He acts like he wants to enroll Trixie at Starford, so he can see one of the classes. The teacher in the class, Madison, wants the children to open up about their emotions. She completely skips over Lucifer who is eager to share. Trixie shares that she feels sad because her mom almost died. Her mom’s job is scary, and she has to help people. So Trixie pretends that she’s okay. Chloe overhears Trixie’s exclamation and is worried about the damage she is doing to her daughter.

It seems that everywhere you turn, someone has a motive. A couple, whose son was turned away from Starford, certainly had a grudge to pick with Debbie. But, it turns out that they would be looking in the wrong place. Debbie said that their donation never made it to the school, but it did. The assistant Dean just happened to pocket their money for himself. When Chloe kept running into parents with grudges against Debbie, she decides to do a little bit of recon at the grief gathering for Debbie.

All of the parents are so stuck up and judgmental that they all give Chloe weird looks when she shows up at the gathering by herself. They seem confused until Maze shows up pretending to be Chloe’s wife. The irony isn’t lost on me that they are more accepting of a gay marriage than they are of a single, working mother. But these parents are just looking for someone to look down on because they are so miserable in their own lives.

Chloe and Maze decide to start a rumor that Chloe is closing in on Debbie’s killer. They spread that Chloe found DNA that links to the killer, and it’s in her car. Lucifer finds Madison, the feelings teacher, trying to get in Chloe’s car. Of course, he has no idea what she’s doing; he just wants to know how to control his feelings. Naturally, she doesn’t know any better than he does. She can’t control her feelings, which is why she killed Debbie after Debbie had found out that her son is not her husband’s.

Lucifer goes back to see Linda. He admits that he wants to trap Charlotte in Heaven on her own. He hopes that his parents will tear each other apart. He thinks that they deserve to be punished for manipulating him. Linda tells him that he needs to feel all of the pain that his parents and Chloe have cause him. He has been suppressing it, but the only way to get over it is through it. Lucifer uses this pain to get a small flame started on the sword. Charlotte is upset when Lucifer lets go, but Amenadiel sees the pain that it caused him.
