We are quickly approaching Gotham’s fall finale, and we’ve been going at a breakneck pace since the first episode of the season. “The Son of Gotham†drives this momentum even further, and we finally get to see what the Dumas are all about.
The Dumas, as you may recall from earlier in the show, is the shamed family of Gotham, and Galavan is on a powertrip to “cleanse†Gotham. Whenever the word “cleansing†is used, you know nothing good could come of it. But, there’s no way that Galavan would survive his trial after Mayor James admitted to Galavan as being his captor. But, since this is Gotham, Mayor James blames it all on Cobblepot and said that Cobblepot tried to brainwash him into telling the courts that it was Theo Galavan. And off goes Galavan, free of all charges. But, he does have another meeting with Jim a little later on in the episode.
As for Jim, he barely made the court trial to begin with because Gotham is run amok with hood-wearing, throat-slicing monks, a typical day for GCPD. The first murder that they go to is at a massage parlor, which is strongly eluded to being one that provides a happy ending. Jim gets into a fight with one of the hooded men. Jim breaks his arm, turns the knife on him and stabs him right in the gut. The guy stares Jim down and pulls it out. Yep, this is definitely Gotham for you.

Earlier in the episode, a guy that tried to mug a women in the streets also had his throat slit, all in the name of the Dumas to purify Gotham with The Blood of The Nine. They eventually find out that the clan is running around in the sewers of Gotham where they are conducting blood rituals to cleanse Gotham City.
Harvey and Jim are caught by a hooded-man, but they have the upper-hand and with a shoddy blindfold, they convince the man that they are part of the Dumas as well. This is where they craftily were able to coerce him to tell the duo that, one of the nine that must die, the son of Gotham must be one of them. The scene was really well done and did a great job of showing how ruthless and powerful the Dumas are.
As eluded to earlier, after Jim punches Galavan in the face in the courtroom, something of which Galavan surely counted on. Two guards escort Jim out, and they tased him. Of course, the guards are Galavans, and the two come face-to-face. Jim is bound, while Galavan explains all about the Dumas and how his name isn’t really Galavan. He later unties Jim and lets Jim take his parting shots. Little did we know that Galavan is part ninja and totally beats Jim down. Surprisingly, Cobblepot is there to save the day.

After being told of Galavan escaping prison, Cobblepot had his men track the whereabouts of Galavan. In his rage, however, he does save Jim but adds a few more punches into the mix. It’s safe to assume that this will be another occurrence where Jim “owes†Cobblepot one, and we know how well that will go over.
While Jim had some great scenes, I really enjoyed scenes with Bruce. Selina finally got through to him, and they’ve created a masterplan to deceive Silver St. Cloud.  Bruce tells Silver everything she wants to hear, and she sets up a date after school. We find that Silver is kidnapped and shortly after Bruce is as well. But, you could tell things were fishy from the start. I did love seeing Chibbs from Sons of Anarchy make an appearance, and he definitely adds to the grit of the show. This whole plan was to find out who killed Bruce’s parents. Just before she thinks she is going to lose a couple digits, Silver blabs that the only name she heard Galavan mention was Malone, M. Malone. Once Bruce comes back out, completely unharmed since he set it all up, we finally get to see how Bruce acts when he has the upperhand. For once, he doesn’t let Silver drag him around; instead, it’s he who is spitting the fire. Later at the manor, Bruce finally realizes that Selina is his true ally, for now anyway.
There are a handful of scenes with various other characters, but aside from a short one featuring Alfred battling it out with Tabitha, there wasn’t too much to write home about. There was a pretty funny scene where Cobblepot keeps calling Nygma while he’s at work, and we got to see Nygma fake a cry to convince Lee of his fabricated story about Kringle running off with Dougherty, which was quite comedic.
