Two fears of mine manifest themselves in Expedition Zero, being stranded in a cold place (Siberia in this case) and flesh-eating monsters (I mean… it’s obvious.) While survival horror is about as commonplace as pretty much anything right now, Expedition Zero looks to put a bit of a twist on the well-trodden territory.
As explained in their press sheet instead of your standard fare of weapons, you will have to:
- Soviet engineer against monsters: confront dreadful: creatures with brains and brawn, use your ingenuity and technical skills instead of weapons.
- Survive in the freezing Siberian taiga forest full of mysteries, unknown threats and endless horror.
- Upgrade your mechanized suit, craft Soviet gadgets and discover new technologies.
- Uncover the truth of Expedition Zero.
I’m always sold anytime games involve taking lesser known locales (Siberia) and gadgetry (Soviet). It’s a great way to freshen up a genre. My interest is always especially piqued when it comes to Soviet tech/locales as can be seen by my adoration for Singularity.
While the trailer doesn’t show much, it does a good job of setting the tone.
