The latest episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, “Leviathan,” is easily one of the better episodes featuring Vandal Savage. His immense power really makes it tough to find a sense of balance in this show, but they did quite the job here. Oh, and did I mention there’s a robot vs Atom battle?

Savage has hardly been pressed at all up until this episode. Sure, the crew have half-attempted at ways to stop him, but nothing has come close to even slowing him down, that is until now.

The crew travel very close to when Savage and his global army is about to take out London, one of the last bastions of the resistance. As half the crew is working some recon, they find out that a mysterious woman, who happens to be Savage’s daughter, has Kendra’s bracelet. They steal her bracelet and ponder for a ridiculous amount of time about how they are going to turn a simple bracelet into a weapon. For how technically advanced and ingenious most of the crew are, obvious answers often outreach them. While it was a bit cumbersome getting to the how, the end result was an awesome gold dipped Mace!

It was nice seeing the iconic weapon and was a sweet gesture that she will use Carter’s weapon to avenge his death and save the entire world from Savage. At least, that’s the plan anyway.

The other big battle going on is Ray Palmer vs the Leviathan. This battle sequence played out far better than I could have imagined. CW Shows don’t tend to have shoddy visual effects, but it hasn’t really been done to this extent on any of the other CW comic book shows. The battle was certainly intense, and they created nice cut aways to the battle going on between Savage and Kendra. The dual fighting sequences were some of the best of the season and certainly something of which I would love to see more. Jefferson took a bit of a backseat role in the fight, but it was nice seeing him be the “cheerleader” of the group once Stein became injured.

The Hawkgirl and Vandal Savage fight was pretty awesome and fun throughout. The special effects every time she smashed him with the mace was sweet! Having said that, it’s a shame that Savage had such an easy and obvious trump card.  He says that if Kendra kills him, she will never see Carter again. This should have been an extremely obvious point of which seemingly none of the Waverider crew thought. It does allow for some nice dialogue among her and Rip that revolves around why she wasn’t able to kill Savage after all he has done/is about to do. Every dilemma in this show forces you into the perspective of who is more important? Rip is doing all of this to save his family, but does that mean Kendra should risk hers? It’s a nice dynamic that is somewhat hidden within the craziness.

As family was a huge part of the episode, we learn that Savage’s daughter is somewhat brainwashed to what he has done. She believes it was all for the greater good and to stop Per Degaton after he unleashed the virus. The crew, namely Snart, is able to convince her that isn’t so by having Gideon show her what truly happened. The point comes across so strongly because that is where her mother died.
