Fortress | Supergirl “Solitude” Review

"Solitude" -- Kara travels to Superman's Fortress of Solitude in hopes of learning how to defeat Indigo, a dangerous being who can transport via the Internet and who has a connection to Kara's past, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, Feb. 29 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Supergirl had her own battles to fight this week in “Solitude.” A new villain, Indigo, has emerged, and she sure is vicious. If Indigo looks familiar, that’s because Laura Vandervoort played Supergirl on the CW TV series, Smallville. It’s always fun knowing that they pay homage to the DC heroes previously on TV and in movies.

Kara had her hands full this week with an internet villain named Indigo. Kara doesn’t want to work with the DEO, since she’s still upset with Hank for Astra’s death, so she decides to take on Indigo all by herself. And by herself I mean with her partners in crime, Winn and James. Indigo sent a flash drive to CatCo. She hacked an unhackable site for adulterers. Cat doesn’t want to give the bottom feeders legitimacy, so she orders the flash drive to be destroyed. Now, Indigo says that since CatCo failed to act on her information, all will suffer. She says, “The age of chaos begins now. Enjoy.”

When Winn tries to stop Indigo, she emerges from the computer. She’s some sort of living internet. I definitely have to give credit where credit is due. The special effects for Indigo were great. Kara needs to get information on Indigo since she can’t go to the DEO, so James takes her to the Fortress of Solitude. There were some great Easter Eggs hidden in the Fortress. Well we all know where this is going; Indigo wants to take out the human race. To do so, she manages to get into a secured facility that holds nuclear missiles.

Indigo launches a missile, and Supergirl needs help disarming it before it nukes National City. At least Kara isn’t afraid to ask for help (Do you think Superman would have swallowed his pride on this one?). She calls on Hank to help her disarm the nuke before it kills millions. Meanwhile, Winn has a way to shut down Indigo. A few years ago, he “accidentally” created a nasty computer virus. I love how goofy Winn is, and he just proves my point when he says, “I just fed you a major helping of malware. Bon appetit.” You just have to laugh with him.

It would be a stretch to say that I’m warming up to Siobhan, but she did show a little more humanity this week. Kara tried to warn Siobhan to open any mail from Cat, but Siobhan doesn’t listen. When Cat sees that it isn’t opened, she’s upset. Cat says that it could have been Anthrax. It’s always good to know that Cat cares about her employees. After that, Siobhan is visibly shaken.  Seeing how upset she is, Winn tries to be a friend to Siobhan in hopes that she wouldn’t be so cold, to say it nicely.

Siobhan was reluctant to let down her walls around Winn, but she sort of just exploded. She admitted to Winn that when she was 17, she walked in on her dad with his personal assistant. Even though her father said he was sorry and that he loved her mom more than anything, it clearly didn’t help Siobhan. And then just as she’s softening, she tells WInn that if he tells anyone about her father she will kill him. And there’s the Siobhan we know all too well already. Winn must be a glutton for punishment because he doesn’t give up. He runs into Siobhan later and tries again to connect with her. She kisses him and then again promises to kill him if he tells anybody. Winn can only say, “You threaten to kill me a lot.”

I knew it was only a matter of time that Alex would crack. Kara took out her frustration about Astra’s death on Hank and the DEO. Kara says, “The world almost ended because we weren’t a team. We need each other.” Alex breaks down and admits that she was the one who killed Astra. She told Kara that she only let Hank take the blame because she was afraid of losing her sister. For a moment, it looked like Kara wasn’t going to forgive Alex, but then she gives her sister a hug. It looks like Alex, Kara, and Hank can finally work together again.

Unfortunately for some, it looks like National City’s resident power couple, James Olsen and Lucy Lane, are calling it quits. James asked Kara if he could tell Lucy Supergirl’s secret, but Kara wouldn’t let him. After the case, Kara admitted that she just liked working together with James, but Kara relented and said he could tell her secret to Lucy. Kara even talks to Lucy to show her support for their relationship. But, Kara didn’t realize that when trying to explain how James thinks, Kara reveals that James told her the story of how his father was the one who put a camera in his hands before he died. He never told Lucy that story. Lucy tells James, “You wanted to tell her because you love her. And for what it’s worth, she feels the same even if she can’t say it yet either.” I wonder if Lucy realizes that Kara and Supergirl are one in the same or not. In any case, will James do anything about his new found feelings?

I think if James and Kara, Supergirl become a love interest I think I’ll puke. That’s just taking things to far because James, Jimmy are suppose to be partners in crime fighting. What next? Hank and Alex? If Kara becomes James lover, I think I’ll start watching something else on, like Gotham.

If Kara, Supergirl and James, Jimmy Olson become lovers, I will not be watching this show anymore. That’s just to far fetched for me and this coming from a person watching a make believe show. They’re suppose to crime fighting partners, not bed partners.
    What next, Hank and Alex?
