Lucifer is in quite the predicament in the freshman series’ season finale, “Take Me Back to Hell.” Malcolm has successfully framed Lucifer, and he’s ready to give up. Thankfully, Chloe doesn’t believe that he could be guilty of killing the preacher. Now the race is on to catch Malcolm before he disappears and clear Lucifer’s name.

Lucifer is about to be arrested at Lux after the preacher is found dead by the bar. Chloe and a bunch of cops all have guns aimed at Lucifer. Lucifer knows that he’s vulnerable with Chloe around, but he doesn’t seem to care. He taunts the cops essentially asking to die. Chloe has a feeling that Lucifer is innocent and directs the cops to stand down. Just as a newbie cop is pulling the trigger, Lucifer disappears. I guess it’s good to have an angel for a brother because Amenadiel saves the day.

Lucifer is clearly hurting at this point. He’s completely broken and is actually ready to go home. He tells Amenadiel, “There’s no reason for me to stay anymore. You win. I’ll go willingly. Please take me back to Hell.” Ironically, Amenadiel says no. Amenadiel says that people have died because of them. His actions were selfish, and Amenadiel is ready to make it right. He asks for Lucifer’s help in stopping Malcolm for good. Lucifer can never say no to a good punishment, and we finally get to see the brothers work together.

Lucifer and Amenadiel aren’t the only ones going after Malcolm. Chloe knows that Lucifer didn’t kill the preacher. Lucifer does everything with passion, but the preacher was shot execution style. Dan agrees even though he definitely doesn’t like Lucifer. He realizes that it’s finally time to tell Chloe the truth. He tells her everything starting with him shooting Malcolm. Chloe is extremely upset with Dan and no longer feels like she can trust him. She tells Dan that he can make things right by proving Lucifer’s innocence.

Lucifer and Amenadiel need to find Malcolm, but they don’t know where he’s going. They realize that he needs to get a fake ID and get out of town, but he needs money. They go to Dan’s office to ask for information on where Malcolm would go. Lucifer asks what Dan desires; we already know that he wants to redeem himself and taking down Malcolm will do that. Dan does let slip where Malcolm will go to get money.

Lucifer and Amenadiel go to stop Malcolm. Dan lets Chloe know where Malcolm is headed, so she goes there as well. Of course, Chloe picks up an unlikely partner on her way. Maze decides to help Chloe and goes with her to stop Malcolm. Amenadiel and Lucifer find themselves in front of a bunch of guards with guns. They have some fun and let the men shoot them and watch their immortality with their own eyes. They find Malcolm, but he has a weapon that no one knew about. Malcolm stabs Amenadiel with a demon blade, almost killing him. Maze says she will take care of it, but Malcolm has already gotten away.

Now that Malcolm has escaped but without his money, he needs to get it back. Malcolm kidnaps Trixie and asks for Chloe to go alone and exchange his money for her daughter. Chloe begs Lucifer not to come with her, but he later clarifies that she said nothing about him following her. So he follows Chloe. Once Trixie is safe, Lucifer confronts Malcolm. Unfortunately because Chloe is around, Lucifer is vulnerable. Malcolm shoots Lucifer, and he’s down for the count.

At this point, Lucifer is bleeding out and is only thinking of one thing, Chloe. Lucifer starts praying; he asks his dad for a favor. Lucifer says, “I‘ll do as you ask, go where you want me to. In exchange, all I ask is to protect Chloe.” I was surprised that he was completely selfless by asking to protect her. I was expecting him to ask for protection for himself, so he could then save Chloe. Lucifer ends up in Hell, but the door is open? Lucifer was able to come back through and surprised a very confused Malcolm. Chloe then finishes him off. Malcolm thinks he can use Lucifer’s coin, but Lucifer pulls it from his pocket. Lucifer tells Malcolm that he knows a guy who apparently wants him to stay in Los Angeles.

As if that weren’t enough, Lucifer thinks that there is another reason why his father wanted to bring him back to Los Angeles. It appears that someone else has escaped from Hell. Lucifer thinks that he is supposed to bring back the jailbird. When Amenadiel asks who could possibly escape Hell, Lucifer only says one word, “Mom.” It looks like they are setting up the second season of Lucifer well.
