According to a Nikkei article today Hideo Kojima the mastermind behind the Metal Gear Solid series and Snatcher, has officially left Konami Digital Entertainment. Rumor has it that Kojima actually left back in October, but Konami was insistent that he was on vacation. What’s next for the Policenauts autuer? He’s allegedly forming his own studio with several people who used to work under him. Such as Yoji Shinkawa the concept artist whose art is on the cover to Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. Sony seems interested in Kojima’s new work as they are currently in talks. No news on whether the talks are about full exclusivity, or anything else. Unfortunately, the Metal Gear Solid IP is completely owned by Konami, so there will be no chance of it being wrestled away from them. This does mean, however, that Kojima’s new studio would be working on a wholly original title. Regardless, we probably won’t see anything regarding his new studio for quite some time.
