Krypton Dreams | Supergirl “For the Girl Who Has Everything” Review

"For The Girl Who Has Everything" -- When a parasitic alien attaches itself to Kara (Melissa Benoist, left) and traps her in a dream world where her family is alive and her home planet was never destroyed, Kara's beloved cousin Kal-El (Daniel DiMaggio, right) joins her and her parents in domestic Kryptonian bliss, where neither of them needed to escape to Earth, or become super heroes, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, Feb. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

Supergirl showed us what Krypton might have been like with the episode “For the Girl Who Has Everything.” Last week, we saw some sort of monster attack Kara in her apartment. Now, we know who sent this parasite to attack Kara, but what is their plan? Also, with Kara unconscious, we get to see her friends coming to her rescue at her day job at CatCo.

Kara wakes up in her old bedroom in her house on Krypton. She realizes that she’s dreaming, but her memories are soon fading. Her parents keep telling her that she’s been having terrible hallucinations from her fever. She keeps fighting saying that Earth is her home, and this all can’t be real. Within time, though, her memories are getting further and further away. She soon forgets that she once called Earth home.

Meanwhile, Winn and James are confused when Kara doesn’t show up to work. Of course, Cat Grant is on a tear wondering where she is; plus, Cat is still mad at Kara for driving Adam away. Winn and James go to Kara’s apartment with their muscle, Alex. Alex kicks open the door, and they find an unconscious Kara on the floor with the parasite attached to her torso. Alex gets Kara to the DEO, but Winn and James need to get back to CatCo. Winn tries to cover for Kara, but it doesn’t go very well. Cat threatens to fire Kara if she isn’t at work within the hour.

"For The Girl Who Has Everything" -- Kara's friends must find a way to save her life when a parasitic alien attaches itself to her and traps her in a dream world where her family is alive and her home planet was never destroyed. Also, Alex, Hank and the DEO must fend off a Kryptonian attack while Kara is out of commission, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, Feb. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. At the DEO, Alex and Hank try to pry the parasite off of Kara, but it starts shutting down her body. If they remove the parasite by force, it will kill Kara. There’s no way for Kara to be at CatCo before the deadline, but we do know that there’s someone who could pose as Kara for a few hours to save her job. Hank is reluctant until Alex convinces him. Alex reminds Hank that Kara’s job at CatCo is not just a hobby; it means more to her than they all know.

At CatCo, Hank gets to see firsthand what Kara deals with everyday. He brushes Winn and James off when they try to warn him about how difficult Cat can be. Hank is confident that he can handle her, but boy is he wrong. Hank even does the unthinkable to Cat; he got whole milk in her latte. You’d think the world ended by how upset Cat was. Hank only mutters, “That woman makes me miss my alien prison.”

It turns out that Nan is the one behind the attack on Kara. Nan reveals to Aunt Astra that he’s the one who put the parasite, called a Black Mercy, on Kara. Astra’s strict instructions were to not kill Kara, but the Black Mercy only puts her in a dream state. Nan says that she is at peace which is more than she deserves, but Astra is clearly upset. She goes to Alex and promises to help Kara, but Alex must trust Astra which she isn’t ready to do.

Alex tries to get answers from the hologram of Alura Zor-El, but of course, she isn’t programmed to give any information. Alex is distraught that she hasn’t been able to help Kara. She’s remembering the times when they were growing up, and Kara was embarrassing her in front of her friends. “All Kara wanted was a family, and that’s what she is to me. She’s my sister, and she needs me now more than ever,” Alex says. Alex must turn to Astra. Astra reveals that the only way for Kara to get out of the Black Mercy’s grasps is to remember that it is all a dream and get herself out.

Alex and Hank need help to develop technology to allow Alex to enter Kara’s unconscious mind. If Alex can enter Kara’s dreams, then she can break her out of the spell. Unfortunately, they must call on Maxwell Lord to help create this technology. Once Alex is under, she wakes up on Krypton. When Alex gets to Kara, she reminds Kara who she is and how she belongs on Earth with her family. Alex seems to truly get through to Kara when she says, “Earth needs Supergirl.” Once she’s awake, Kara is more than upset. She says that Nan made her lose her parents all over again.

At the DEO, Winn helped to realize that Nan and the Fort Rozz prisoners had a plan that they were trying to set in motion while Kara was unconscious. They hear talk of a Myriad, but no one has any idea yet what this is. The fight scenes between Astra and Martian Manhunter, and Kara and Nan are phenomenal. Sadly, not everyone made it out alive. Astra was about to kill Martian Manhunter, so Alex stabbed through her with a Kryptonite blade. Alex is distraught by killing Kara’s aunt, so Hank takes the fall for the kill. When Alex tries to talk to Hank about why he covered for her he says, “You’re Supergirl’s hero, and I don’t want her to see you as anything other than that.”
