Sony has kicked off their Tokyo Games Show press briefing with the announcement of a new PS VITA Model that is 20{3a19833c997fa52158a43c449fe089ff048ac0506a335cac10721cfa396ff282} thinner and 15{3a19833c997fa52158a43c449fe089ff048ac0506a335cac10721cfa396ff282} lighter than its predecessor. Likely more surprising than the announcement of the refined PS VITA is that, Sony opted for an LCD display instead of the original OLED. They cited new developments in the LCD technology which made the display able to showcase more native colors. The 5-inch LCD featured on the PCH-2000 isn’t the only thing new about the device, it’ll have 1GB of internal flash memory installed out the box. Sony is also making significant price reductions of existing memory cards that are on the market for PS VITA consumers, in addition to a new 64GB card that is on the way. Finally the PCH-2000’s battery life has been extended by 1 hour, totaling up to 6 hours of gameplay, as apposed to the original PS VITA’s 5 hours.
To make the device even more attractive, the new PS VITA comes in multiple flavors — pink, white, yellow, and more releasing October 10th in Japan for 18,980 Yen (around $190).
