Each new episode of Lucifer is always set to bring the humor, but this one tugged at the heartstrings a bit. In “Wingman,” Lucifer was focused on getting back his wings. They are far too powerful to leave in the hands of humans. Mazikeen is having fun because she gets to torture people to get information. Leave it to Lucifer to rain on her parade. Lucifer realizes that they aren’t getting anywhere with violence, and maybe they should look to the help of a professional.

Enter Detective Chloe Decker, Lucifer’s go to professional. Unfortunately, Chloe has a few things on her mind. The case that alienated Chloe and resulted in a cop, Malcolm, being shot is rearing its ugly head. Malcolm’s wife is ready to pull the plug on his life support and let him die. Everyone in the precinct is upset that Chloe won’t let the case go. She’s sure that she saw something that wasn’t quite right. She saw Malcolm taking money from the French drug trafficker he was chasing. Then, all of a sudden bullets are flying, but Chloe didn’t see anyone else enter or exit the building. What was she missing?

Lucifer goes to see Chloe and asks what she does when her case hits a wall. She says that she grabs someone who is willing to be honest with her even if it’s not what she wants to hear. Lucifer thanks her and leaves. I guess he didn’t want her help. He calls on the only other person he knows who will be honest with him, Amenadiel. Lucifer asks for Amenadiel’s help, but Amenadiel tells him to fix his own mess for once. Amenadiel is frustrated with Lucifer because he has had to take Lucifer’s place controlling the gates of hell. Amenadiel also questions why Lucifer hung on to his wings if he truly hated them. Lucifer replies that it’s none of his business, but that doesn’t stop Amenadiel from speculating that Lucifer regretted cutting them off. He thinks that Lucifer kept his wings as a backup plan.

Lucifer goes back to Chloe since Amenadiel is no help. He offers to help on her case if she helps on his. Lucifer asks if Chloe can put an APB out on his angel wings. At first she laughs, but then she realizes that he’s serious. Lucifer asks to help on her case, but her ex husband, Dan, is already helping out. Luckily, the APB got a hit. Lucifer’s wings are being pawned at an antiquities auction. Lucifer could wait for the FBI to raid the place and retrieve his wings after 30 days, but he’s impatient. He goes to the auction to bid on the wings himself and runs into Amenadiel. Amenadiel came to make sure that Lucifer didn’t screw up. He believes that the wings belong in heaven, where they were created.

Lucifer is about to get his wings when the FBI raids the place. Amenadiel slows down time, so Lucifer can steal back his wings. But, lo and behold, the wings are fake. When Amenadiel asks what Lucifer’s next move is he says, “What I’m about to do is the Devil’s work.” Lucifer hunts down the man who is keeping his wings, the auctioneer. Lucifer took his wings back from the auctioneer, even as the man was begging that he couldn’t live without the wings.

After Lucifer took back what was rightfully his, he met with Amenadiel again. Lucifer found out from the auctioneer that Amenadiel was behind everything. Amenadiel orchestrated the theft of Lucifer’s wings. He was willing to let a human die to unleash the wings on the world. Lucifer ends up burning his wings much to Amenadiel’s despair. He says, “Severing the wings was a half measure.” He kept the wings as a backup plan, but now he doesn’t need it. Lucifer says that he is never going back to hell. To that, Amenadiel attacks Lucifer. It’s only when Lucifer says, “Fall as I did! Come on,” that Amenadiel stops. He leaves Lucifer with only a few words, “This is far from over. I’ll do whatever it takes to get you back to hell.”

Meanwhile, Chloe is still on her corrupt cop case. After seeing the auctioneer escape the FBI by slipping through a secret door, she wonders if there was a secret exit to the warehouse where Malcolm was shot. Chloe and Dan find the secret exit as well as a 999 LAPD issued key. Some other cop killed Malcolm, but why? Is the other cop corrupt? And who could it be? Is the answer really as easy as Anthony Paolucci? Only time will tell. At least, Chloe isn’t as crazy as she seems. Malcolm’s family officially pulls the plug, but his vitals are less than normal for a dead man. We see Amenadiel walking away from Malcolm’s hospital room. What did he do? Is Malcolm still alive?
