An all-new Sonic game has just been announced at Sega’s Sonic 25th Anniversary Celebration stream, Sonic Mania. The title will be an all-new game with new levels and remixed classic levels. Much like the Sega Genesis Sonic games, Mania will have an enhanced 16-bit aesthetic. The physics seem close to the originals, which shouldn’t be surprising as it’s being helmed by Christian Whitehead who produced the amazing Sonic CD port in 2011 for the then modern consoles and mobile devices. Sonic Mania is scheduled for release in Spring of 2017 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Honestly, I’m pretty excited for this. I love Sonic but Sega’s last 2D Sonic “revival” was terrible; plagued with horrible physics and an art style that left much to be desired. The game is in good hands, I feel. I just wished the game would have come out this year for Sonic’s 25th instead of next year.
