Welcome to Silent Hill. I’m joking, most of you would probably cry if you ever passed that sign on a highway. While at New York Comic Con today, I waited a long time on a line to get into the interview panel/ trailer debut for a new movie based on Konami’s Silent Hill video game series. Silent Hill: Revelations is directed by Michael J. Bassett and shot entirely in 3D. The movie is starring Adelaide Clemens (x-men origins) playing Heather and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) as Vincent. I personally am not a fan of live action movies based off of video games or anime, finding the result usually ridiculous *cough* DragonBall Evolution, Max Payne, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li *cough* but I won’t name any names. Honestly, i’m still a skeptic but a large part of me wants to trust Bassett’s seemingly large knowledge of the Silent Hill world and lore. It’s obvious that he is a fan of the series and has played the games but it seems like anything game inspired and filmed in 3D are “no-no’s” when money get’s involved. Based on the trailer though, the 3D elements seemed to work very well and actually add to the movie’s eerie atmosphere instead of just throwing random scenes where objects are flying at you for the hell of it.
If the whole movie remains like this, it may actually be worth a watch. The main story is a sequel to the first Silent Hill movie/game and is based mainly off of the Silent Hill 3 game. Though the game is supposed to be based on Silent Hill 3, Bassett confesses that there are some differences to the story and characters in the movie adaptation. The main difference can be seen in Harington’s character Vincent, who seems to be VERY loosely related to the character in SH3. For the true fans, there are supposed to be a lot of easter eggs as well as some cameos by some other popular characters in the Silent Hill universe. Oh and there’s pyramid head, yeah him…I would honestly say for you guys to let me check this out first before I go recommending it, but to any true Silent Hill fans, I simply ask “Why not?”  Till next time folks
