Gotham is generally pretty easy to predict, especially considering we’ve all seen comics and/or some form of media that depicts what is to come. But “Anything for You†is loaded with twists and turns, many of which you don’t see coming.
It’s still a little bizarre that Oswald Cobblepot has become Mayor of Gotham. To think, a once cop-killer vigilante of Gotham is now rallying the troops and a man of the people, or something to that effect. But, while Oswald is in the clouds, Butch was unceremoniously dashed to the ground, and you could tell from a mile away that he was soon to get his revenge. That was the plan, anyway.
Butch’s plan, which was actually quite decent at first, was to hire a bunch of goons and have them don red hoods (yeah, the Red Hood Gang) and let them terrorize everything surrounding Cobblepot. Then, Butch would gallantly drop in as the white knight and his savior. The only problem, the smartest man in the room will never be Butch; that lies with the dastardly sneaky Edward Nygma.
Nygma and Cobblepot have certainly had their history in the previous season, but ever since Cobblepot broke Nygma out of Arkham, they’ve have a bromance that is further solidified in this episode. When Nygma realizes Butch plan, he convinces Butch, by holding Tabitha at knife point, that he needs to kill Cobblepot so the two of them can run the city together. What a scary site that would be. As you would expect, the bullets are blanks and what was supposed to make Butch the man of the hour actually placed all the glory on Nygma.
Nygma’s creepy nature is only outweighed by his cunningness, and he is absolutely a character that is becoming a favorite of mine. HIs jokes are a bit tuned down from the previous season when all his screentime was a rhyme, and now he’s the quirky wallflower of sorts that is just scheming in the background. At this point, it’s impossible for this duo to ever be broken up. Nygma has done so much to convince Cobblepot that he’s the only one he needs, and Cobblepot certainly believes it.
As for people allowing themselves to become vulnerable, Bruce takes an awkward step to doing just that. Bruce somehow manages to get the words out of his mouth that he feels something for Selina and that she must feel something back. They do eventually kiss when he says that he has feelings for her, and she just says good and walks away. Selina is definitely channeling the Catwoman we know and love. It will be interesting to see how the admittance of his feelings alters his attitude toward her, and if it affects her emotions as well.
