Supergirl started strong with its first episode on the CW. All of these lovable characters are back and ready for more fun this season. And with the latest addition of Superman, the adventures can only get better.

The premiere starts with a pod falling from the sky. It looks identical to the pod that sent Kara to Earth from Krypton. Could this mystery man be another Kryptonian? Of course if you’ve been paying attention to casting news, you’ve seen that Chris Wood joined the Supergirl cast as Mon-El. Kara couldn’t be more excited to have someone else from home to be with them on Earth. Superman AKA Clark Kent, on the other hand, is much more skeptical. Now executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has said that their version of Mon-El will be different from the comics, but we have yet to figure out how.

The nerd in Kara can’t help but be intrigued by the launch of the Venture spacecraft. She even puts on the news feed during her first real date with James. When the Venture starts to crash back to Earth, Supergirl goes to save the day. Little did she know that Superman was also watching the feed and comes to help. They are both very excited to work together, and it’s just too cute.

Someone sabotaged the Venture spacecraft, and they are targeting Lena Luthor. You guessed it; Lena is Lex Luthor’s sister. Kara applauds Clark for putting Lex in prison, and I appreciate the nod to Clark’s efforts as Superman. Lena is trying to clean up her company, Luthor Corp and repair the name that is now synonymous with a master criminal. Her own brother is the one who hired assassins to kill her and prevent her from rebuilding the company into L Corp. Clark and Kara come to her rescue, but Lena is the one to put a few bullets into the assassin by the end.

Kara is really struggling with her personal life in this episode. It seems that even though she finally has everything that she’s ever wanted, she’s not satisfied. Kara and James are about to go on their first date, but it gets interrupted by the failed launch of the Venture. Luckily, James understands her duties as Supergirl and doesn’t seem terribly upset that their date was ruined. Finally, Kara admits to herself that a relationship with James isn’t what she wants. She tells him that they are best as friends. He seems very hurt but understands nonetheless. For someone who was pining over James for the entire first season, this was a complete turn for her. I feel worse for James who finally realized his feelings for Kara only to be shot down.

Not only is Kara struggling with her love life, but she hasn’t yet discovered her dream career. Cat gave her full reign to pick any career that she wanted, and she still hasn’t decided. She did do an internet quiz that told her marketing is her dream job. Cat didn’t reply in kind to that. She tells Kara, “I think that it is the most pathetic thing that I’ve ever heard. You can’t internet search a calling Kara.” It’s great seeing Cat push Kara in this way. She clearly needs it.

After working alongside Clark, Kara finally finds her calling. Of course, she wants to be a reporter. The wonderful part is that Cat knew all along that Kara was destined to be a reporter. Kara tells Cat, “It’s going to make me the best version of myself. This is my calling.” Cat reveals that when she hired Kara, she wrote reporter on her resume because she just had a feeling that was what Kara was destined to do. She saw part of herself in Kara. Cat even reassures Kara by telling her, “You inspire me, Kara. I can see the hero within you. Now, get out and make me proud.”

One thing I appreciate is the fact that Superman does not ever want to work with the DEO and is in a falling out with J’onn J’onzz. Clark wanted to destroy all kryptonite, but J’onn understands that not all Kryptonians are good guys. As we know, kryptonite is being kept at the DEO. Clark maintains that he will never work with the DEO while they have kryptonite under their roof. But he’s sticking around National City for awhile, so I guess he will inadvertently be working for the DEO… just not officially?

WHAT IS DUAL PIXELS?

Dual Pixels is more than just an organization, it's a culture. The interactive arts are our passion, this includes gaming and innovations brought forward with technology. The beauty of being an independent organization is the fact that we have the opportunity to bring back the enthusiasm in a gaming industry which is becoming increasingly corporate and stale. The Dual Pixels brand is full of perspective hence the reason why we also go by the appellation "The Digital Crossover".
