Picking our favorite games from E3 2018 was nearly impossible. While the jaw-dropping was at a minimum during this year’s conference, we still had difficulties narrowing down our choices to a single game in which we are looking forward to the most. Of course, there was never going to be a consensus to be had, so here are each of our writer’s most anticipated upcoming games.
The wonderment of E3 may have been down a bit from years prior, but there were still a solid slate of games. Of all the titles to look forward to, one really shot to the top, Cyberpunk 2077. It could be my love for CD Projekt Red, or its cyberpunk theme, but this title is far and away at the top of my list.
CD Projekt Red has proven that not only can they craft amazing environments with outstanding side-quests strewn throughout, but they’re also near the top (or at the top) in bringing to life main and side characters. Add into the mix their continual pursuit in having some of the best visual fidelity in the business, and you have what could be a genre defining game. The evolution from the first Witcher game to the third should provide enough proof that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a powerhouse on all fronts; that is, whenever it may arrive. The only negative I could even think of, would be the idea that it is starting to look like it may be inching closer to a next-gen title.
This E3 was a bit strange for me; it was the first time I was conflicted between watching trailers or seeing gameplay. That goes directly into the game I’m looking forward to the most, and that is Spider-Man. What was shown was incredible, and it’s really taking the superhero genre to a new level. With developers like Insomniac running the show, I only expect greatness from this title. The amount of Spider-Man games out were only decent as a whole package, but this one in particular is taking it to the next level. I can’t believe that this September I’ll be able to roam the streets as Spider-Man in a very lively New York City.
While there are several titles I’m eagerly anticipating, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Devil May Cry 5, Crackdown 3, there is only one game that I’m waiting for more than anything, and that is Resident Evil 2 Remake. I still remember the first time I played it. A friend in high school lent me his discs for the PC version, and I played through the game so much. It was the game that got me hooked on Resident Evil. Watching the game’s producer, Yoshiaki Hirabyashi, originally announce that Capcom had greenlit the game back in 2015 was awesome. Even better is that the game is just a few months away, releasing in January of next year.
E3 2018 may not be seen as one of the most exciting press conferences when looking back on it, but there were some quality games to add to libraries. Just between us writers here at Dual Pixels you have top games being an original title (albeit based on a tabletop RPG game) with Cyberpunk 2077, a branded title in Spider-Man and a remake in Resident Evil 2 Remake. E3 pressers usually relegate themselves to megatons and shock announcements. E3 2018 was devoid of that almost entirely, but we still received some quality titles in the process.
