Supergirl started right where the winter finale left off with “Blood Bonds.” When we left our red-caped heroine, she was fighting Aunt Astra’s husband, Non, and the other escapees from Fort Rozz at Maxwell Lord’s lab. During the fight, Non had a chance to kill Supergirl, but instead, he takes Hank Henshaw hostage.

Of course, Non has a plan. He wants to trade Henshaw for Astra. Alex Danvers was named the emergency Director of DEO in Hank’s absence, and she’s ready to make the deal. Cue General Lane. He’s back and taking over. General Lane and his men have orders to take over the DEO and torture Hank’s location out of Astra. Kara and Alex are furious about this, but there isn’t anything they can do.

As if it were a surprise to anyone, they walked straight into a trap. Alex decides that she should take matters into her own hands regardless of what General Lane wants. Kara decides to have a heart to heart with Aunt Astra to discuss the trade of her for Hank. Kara reminds Astra that everyone deserves faith, even her. She asks for the truth about what happened to Krypton.

Alex and Supergirl take Astra out of the DEO without General Lane’s approval. When they get to the meeting point, the remainder of the prisoner’s from Fort Rozz surround Alex, Henshaw, and Supergirl. Alex mentions that Hank should transform, which of course with her super hearing, Kara heard. Thankfully, after their heart to heart, Astra forces the prisoners and Non to stand down and honor the deal. They leave, and Kara forces the truth out of Hank. She’s stunned to learn of Hank’s true origins. I’m glad the secret’s out because I never understood why he didn’t want to tell Supergirl in the first place.

Meanwhile, James and Winn are on a mission of their own. Maxwell Lord covers up the attack on his lab by claiming it was all corporate espionage. James and Winn decide to break into Lord’s facility to see what he’s up to. Winn helps James get past all of the security, and James runs into a door locked with biometric scanners that can’t be cracked. Then, James gets grabbed by Lord and his men. Lord roughs up James a bit but eventually lets him go. I don’t think James and Winn will let this one go, and neither will Kara. Lord, on the other hand, is clearly up to no good. We see him asking about a woman who has no family to speak of. He is clearly experimenting on her for some reason, but what is he doing? What do you think he’s up to?

Cat Grant is easily the most fun in this episode. She is completely convinced that Kara is Supergirl; Cat Grant is definitely not stupid. Clark Kent may get away with uses glasses as his disguise, but this isn’t working out so well for Kara. Cat grills Kara about her past. Kara has all of the answers, but to Cat, this just proves that she is lying. Cat says that only people who are lying know answers that well.

Cat just won’t let up. She sits Kara down and explains that she either proves without a doubt that she is not Supergirl, or she can pack up her things. Cat says that if Kara is her assistant then she can’t be out saving someone. It’s nice to see this somewhat softer side of Cat, but I hate that she put Kara in this tough spot. When she feels she’s in over her head, Kara quits her job at CatCo. She’s devastated but can’t seem to find way out.

After Kara learns the truth about Hank Henshaw aka J’onn J’onzz, she enlists his help with Cat. Kara tells Cat that she’s finishing up her day, but then Supergirl shows up. Supergirl introduces herself to Kara, and Cat is speechless. After Supergirl flies away, Cat gives Kara her job back and says how foolish she was to ever think that Kara could be Supergirl. Hank transforms back to himself, and Kara thanks him for helping out. It’s good to see that these two can finally trust one another.
