Lucifer, Amenadiel, and Charlotte are still working together to get back to Heaven. They get a lead on another piece of the flaming sword, at least until he turns up dead and the piece goes missing. Now, they have to make sure that Chloe gets the case, and they get the piece.
Charlotte’s client has acquired a piece of the flaming sword, and Charlotte goes to try and trade the money for the piece. She isn’t very good at the trade and gives him the money before getting the piece. When they go to see if Zeke ran away with the money, he has been murdered. Zeke worked for a woman named Bianca Ruiz, a trafficking queen-pin if you will. Bianca is also one of Charlotte’s clients, so she knows just how to take Bianca down and get back the piece in the process. While the cases are always fun, it’s definitely more of a side story this time.
Linda is not having a good time, now that the Chairman of the Ethics Review Board paid her a visit. Linda used her real name when she broke Lucifer out of the mental institution, and she has been suspended. Maze wants to fix everything and drags Lucifer along. They try to talk to the Chairman on Linda’s behalf, but Lucifer makes things worse by revealing that he used to pay for his sessions with sex. It looks like Linda’s career is over, unless Maze can fix it for good.

In the process of attempting to help Linda, Lucifer and Maze lay it all out on the floor, or the concrete. Lucifer is ready to get back on the case, but Maze is upset because he has no idea how much worse he just made everything for Linda. Plus, he still has no idea how upset she is with him. During their fighting, Maze tells Lucifer that he only cares about himself unless someone can be of use to him. Lucifer tells Maze that he never said how long he was going to go to Heaven. Maze finally sees that he didn’t tell her because her being angry only sold his story more. She tells him that’s even worse, so they go to see Linda.
Now that Linda can no longer practice psychiatry, she drops some hard truths on Lucifer and Maze. Linda tells Lucifer that Maze is pissed because he used her. He never thought about Maze’s feelings. Maze thought he had abandoned her and didn’t care about her. Lucifer tries to shrug it off and say that these things never bothered Maze before, but he sees the hurt on her face. It looks like Earth is changing Maze as well. Lucifer should have seen it before, but he was never looking.

Amenadiel has had a rough go this episode. He’s frustrated when Charlotte and Lucifer work their plan without him. Neither of them seem to notice when Amenadiel isn’t around. He goes looking for them and ends up in a bar with Dan instead. While they may be an unlikely duo, Dan does have some much needed insight. He tells Amenadiel that he needs to figure out who he is outside of Lucifer’s shadow. Amenadiel knows that Lucifer has always been the favorite, but the tide is about to turn.
Once they finally get what Zeke had, it turns out to be a book rather than a piece of the sword. Lucifer and Charlotte both can’t read the language, despite Lucifer knowing to speak every language. His quip about tongues is why Tom Ellis fits Lucifer’s personality perfectly. Amenadiel was always the good student and can translate the book. He figures out that there are three pieces to the flaming sword, the blade, the medallion, and a key. The key was entrusted to the favorite son. When Amenadiel translates this, he’s furious. He tries to shove the blade at Lucifer asking him to try his ring as the final piece. The surprising part is when Amenadiel’s necklace is drawn to the blade. I guess Lucifer wasn’t always the favorite son.
