The lead up to Legends of Tomorrow has been a bit rocky, but overall, the show has been a nice change of pace to what we’ve come to know of The Flash and Arrow. Legends has always had the challenge of giving enough time to their group of characters, and for the most part, they were able to balance things out. The season finale, “Legendary,” does a fantastic job of cleaning up open-ended storylines, while still leaving some more intrigue for season two.

“Legendary” actually starts off back in 2016. A holographic Rip says bon voyage to the crew, and they all try to assimilate to the time they missed. But, it’s not so easy going back since they almost all lost something. Most tragically, Sara comes back to Star City, and Quentin tells her that Laurel has been killed. Of course, she feels that this is her fault, and she could have done something if she were home. So this is what leads her back to the Waverider. As for Mick, he attempts to go back to his thieving ways, but it just isn’t the same without his partner in crime, Snart. Ray feels like Snart wanted them to be partners, but Ray isn’t the thieving type, so they are also lead back to the spot where Rip dropped them off.

The only Legend missing is Kendra who is stuck in 1944. But, all is not lost as she is able to send a message to her counterparts in 2016. She recognizes a helmet, somehow, that she had seen on the Waverider and writes a note in it and puts it in the soldier helmet. Of course, seconds later he is killed by Savage, but the crew does see the message, so they know where to find both Kendra and Savage.

Through a bit of exposition, they figure out Savage’s plan. He plans to completely reset the timeline. He is going to set off three different meteorites in three different time zones to go back to 1700 B.C. With the Legends split in twos, they go to three different time zones to stop Savage at exactly the same time. All the fight scenes are quite unique, and they all use their specific powers to get rid of Savage. Firestorm mutates the meteorite, Atom shrinks his and Rip, well things don’t go according to plan, and he takes it and the waverider and is prepared to send it into the sun.

Once Rip wakes up as they are approaching the sun, he sees figments of his family and states he doesn’t want to leave, as does Gideon, which is a bit weird since she is A.I. So, that gives him the great idea to chuck the meteorite into the sun instead of going down with the ship, which seems quite obvious right off the bat. After he destroys the last meteorite, Rip travels back to get his Legends to trek the timeline that is in complete flux.

All the Legends have some baggage to take care of before embarking on their next journey to figure out how to save the world. Most of all, Stein and Mick have the most touching stories.

Stein is such an interesting character because you would think the first thing he would want to do is to go back and attempt to save the world. But, what he experienced on the Waverider has persuaded Stein to want to stay with his wife. Jefferson tells this to his wife and she convinces him that this is what he must do. Thus they all meet up and send a signal to get Rip back and to continue their journey to save the world. Mick, on the other hand, goes to see a younger Snart. He can’t tell him what happened but he said, “You may not think you’re a hero, but you’re a hero to me.”  It’s a surprisingly sentimental line from the big brooding character that is Mick.

Ah, finally a season finale that ties everything together, right? Not so fast. We get a huge reveal at the end, and it is none other than Rex Tyler, aka Hourman of The Justice Society of America! Whoa! Kendra and Carter fly off shortly before this scene, which leaves the team makeup in limbo going forward.
