When we last saw Lucifer, he was standing up Chloe for their dinner. And as Chloe was leaving the restaurant, Charlotte stood by waiting for the right moment to detonate her bomb. Thankfully, Amenadiel got there in time to save Chloe from his mother. He reminded his mother that it has to be Lucifer’s decision to return home with them. Enter, Charlotte’s next plan.
Lucifer goes to see Linda. She asks for details about his date with Chloe, but he swears it was just dinner. The more details Linda tries to get, the more Lucifer stutters. She sees right through his act and knows that Lucifer chickened out on his date with Chloe. Linda knows that he’s running scared because they had a breakthrough during their last session. Lucifer swears that he never runs scared and would never lie, but he’s lying to himself about his feelings for Chloe.
Lucifer tries to go give Chloe an explanation, but she really doesn’t want to hear it. She’s with her mom about to go to the courthouse. Today is the first day of the trial of Perry Smith, the man responsible for the death of Chloe’s father. Lucifer had no idea that the trial was starting, and Chloe tells him how selfish and thoughtless he can be. Lucifer is already feeling like he needs to make it up to Chloe.

Back at the precinct, Dan is over the moon happy about his tryst with Charlotte, until he finds a package on his desk. Inside is the head of Boris, the prosecution’s lead witness. Without him, the case against Perry Smith is weak. To make matters worse, Charlotte shows up to be Perry’s defense attorney. At first, it seems like she has no idea what she’s doing, but she’s just warming up.
Lucifer tries to see what his mother is up to. Charlotte tells Lucifer that Chloe isn’t worthy of him. He has sacrificed more for her than for anyone else. She says that Chloe doesn’t care about Lucifer like he cares for her. Charlotte wants to prove that to Lucifer, but he will do anything he can to be there for Chloe.
Lucifer decides to testify, since he was undercover with Dan when they met with Boris. He takes over the entire courtroom, and everyone loves him. The jury and the judge are just hanging on his every word. The prosecution looks to be coming out ahead, until Charlotte pokes a hole in the entire case. Lucifer testified that Chloe was the first on the scene of Joe Fields’ murder, but Dan’s name was the one recorded. Now, Lucifer doesn’t look so good.
Once Charlotte is moments away from winning the case, she strikes a deal with Chloe. She wants Chloe to betray Lucifer, and she’ll get her client to plead guilty. This deal is ridiculous of course, but it’s clear that Chloe at least considers it. When she’s called to the stand, Chloe makes her choice. She explains that Lucifer is the best partner she’s ever had. She knows that Lucifer would never lie, and she would do anything for him. Unfortunately, this leads to a not guilty verdict for Perry Smith.

During the trial, Dan has been trying to find a way to get Boris’s killer and link it back to Perry Smith. He traced Boris’s killer to an exiled member of the Chinese triad. That man was also dead, so they were back to square one. Nothing seemed to help them find Boris’s killer before Perry was let go. Dan is even more frustrated when he finds out that Charlotte used him for information on the case. While he was asleep after their wild night, she snooped through his phone. So now, Dan feels completely responsible.
Leave it to Maze to come up with a great solution to their problem. Perry had Boris killed, and the Russians don’t like their own being murdered by outsiders. Dan just happened to let them know where Perry would be. The Russians take him away, and Maze was impressed that Dan went through with it.
The biggest shocker of the episode came after Amenadiel was talking with Chloe’s mom. She thought that Amenadiel looked familiar, and he got visibly uncomfortable. He goes to talk to Charlotte, and it seems that Amenadiel finally understands why Chloe is so special. Amenadiel says that his father asked him to bless a couple who couldn’t have a child. Chloe is the result of that miracle. It’s no wonder Chloe isn’t susceptible to Lucifer’s charms. The question is, what will Charlotte do with this information? She says that Chloe is the key to them getting home, but how?
