The Order 1886 is looking to rewrite history, but those hungry for the steampunk, Victorian-aged third-person shooter will have to hold tight a bit longer as The Order: 1886 is delayed until early 2015. The delay, albeit not really out of the ordinary for games, especially triple A fall releases, is a big blow to Sony’s Holiday season since it’s a barren wasteland the rest of the year in terms of exclusives.
As much as this hurts Sony, the folks over at Microsoft have to be thrilled. After hitting price parity with its main rival, Xbox One can use this gap in releases to create the much-needed foothold for their next-gen system. Xbox One doesn’t have a ton of exclusives to release this holiday season either, but they do have a potential trump card in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a remastering of Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4. A great collection of beloved and highly acclaimed games.
Will Sony have a trump card of its own to reveal at E3? Or, will the delay allow Microsoft to pull ahead in the next-gen race?
Until then, we can ease the knowledge of the long wait for The Order: 1886 with the appropriately musty final box art for the game.
