Robots, cyborgs, and the possibility of computing and robotics of the future is all the rage these days. Teased late last month, Alex Garland has pulled the curtain off his movie, Ex Machina. The first trailer was released right at the tail end of October and offers a very mysterious glimpse into something mechanically beautiful.  The official  ssynopsisfro IMDB is as follows
“Caleb, a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl.”
Cyberpunk dystopias and cybernetic augmentation isn’t too new or too surprising. But damn, is it something cool! As the number of years ascend, technology has become more mobile and accessible. Though most daunting and most likely is the assimilation of man and machine; The human body, robotics, and a highly advanced computer. are they cool! From Deus Ex: Human Revolution to Robocop to the Terminator to Ghost in the Shell to Remember Me, and I, Robot this is a future most realized and most likely. Robotic arms that can crush steel. Portable weapons platforms for swift dispatching. computer optics that can allow human cyborgs to see via night vision and thermal imaging. Bionic legs that could allow for great leaps and sprints without wearing out the user. A lung re-breather to breather underwater or to breath through nerve gas. Artificial intelligence that can heighten and boost human performance, work with people, and open a universe of data, a dataverse. We are truly entering an age where we are creating a new lieform and an age where robots will work with humans and not against. It may also be an age of transcendence, where humans leave their blood, bones, and flesh behind for something free of diseases and weakness: The dawning of the cybernetic organism.
Though there are fears with an Artificial Intelligence. Scientists recently have warned of such inventions as releasing the devil itself upon the world. An intelligence, so advanced, smart and leaning towards perfection, could easily bring about the destruction of human civilization itself, especially in the vein of Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day, where the defense A.I, SKYNET, launches and detonates every nuclear devices across the globe, bringing mankind to the brink of extinction.
Ex Machina should be something very interesting to see. Look for the movie to hit theaters in April, 2015. Follow Ex Machina here for links to Twitter, facebook,  and instagram.
