This trailer from GDC goes into great depth in explaining how the Snowdrop Engine, which is powering the forthcoming MMO from Massive Entertainment: ‘The Division’, is both powerful and flexible. Yes, we’ve heard this before from Epic, Crytek and EA, but the key differentiator for it is the fact that it’s scripting engine is node based. This means that you don’t have to create a series of interdependent layers of assets, ai and physics within thousands of lines of code, each of those parts exists on its own and can be mixed and matched at the designer’s will. This may sound complex but it essentially allows for greatly increased efficiency in designing completely unique environments, enemy behaviors and gameplay systems.
