It was only three weeks ago that Amy Hennig, Naughty Dog’s creative director and writer had left the company. Now, Justin Richmond, who had previously lead development of Uncharted 2’s multiplayer, directed Uncharted 3 and had been given the reigns of the series’ first entry in the current generation announced that he too would be departing the studio, and heading to Riot Games, developer of the popular MOBA League of Legends.
What does this mean for Uncharted 4’s development? With rumors swirling about the grittier and less campy direction that Neil Drukmann and Bruce Staley want to take the series after the immensely positive response that both critics and gamers alike had to ‘The Last of US’ this may be further proof that the next Uncharted might involve less wisecracking and narrative dissonance and put even more emphasis on the psyche of its main character and the darker side of the rare artifacts business. Dare I say it, maybe Tomb Raider put the fear of god into the studio that something drastic had to be done with the direction of their most popular franchise.
what how does that even work!?
Sorry lazyanmtor, what are you referring to?
God, i really hope they don’t turn uncharted into a dark game. What made uncharted interesting to me was the funny interactions between Nathan and his friends. Just because a dark approach worked for Last of Us, doesn’t mean they need to shoe-horn it into the Uncharted series. 🙁
