Square Enix and Marvel Entertainment are teaming up to bring several games over several years to fans. Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) and Eidos Montreal (DEUS EX) will be bringing the games to fruition rather than any of Square Enix’s Japanese studios.
The first game is tentatively titled The Avengers Project. Not much is known about the game other than it will feature popular Marvel characters and locations in addition to a brand-new and original story. The Game seems to still be quite a ways off as more details won’t be unveiled until 2018 at the earliest.
What could Marvel and Square Enix possibly have in mind for Marvel games? And could this partnership extend to other titles? Doubtful. One of the most prevailing fan wishes is having a Marvel themed world in the Disney-centric, Square Enix Developed Kingdom Hearts as Marvel is owned by the House of Mouse. However this partnership seems to be more focused on producing content and games for Western markets as the titles are being helmed by Western studios. Then again, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see an alternate costume for a Final Fantasy protagonist that resembles one of Marvel’s characters.
