Call of the Wild | Scorpion “Once Bitten, Twice Die†Review
The Scorpion team is on the case in “Once Bitten, Twice Die.†Belarus, Lithuania, and Latvia are in peace talks before a war breaks out, and they just so happen to be having these discussions on US soil. Cabe and the Scorpion team are brought in to help keep the US in the dark about the three leaders’ whereabouts. Sylvester hid their incoming plane, and Walter created extremely high tech green screens to make it appear as if the leaders are in their respective countries. Paige even contributed by writing a paper on their customs and the history of their countries; although, no one bothered to read it.
Once they have the three leaders in the same room, no one appears to be making a step forward in actually discussing a peace treaty. Paige oversteps Rene Munoz’s direct orders for her to never speak to a president by suggesting that they toast over the honeymeade. After toasting, the Lithuanian president falls on the floor, appearing to have been poisoned. The on site doctor starts to treat him immediately. A lockdown is put in place since anyone could have had a hand in poisoning him.
When Paige tries to calm down the remaining leaders, she uses an old lullaby to prevent them from fighting. She overhears the Belarus leader mention that he hopes to make it to the dying leader’s funeral. She heard him speak the Belarus term for dust storm. There is an old story of a boy being killed by snake venom, and a dust storm prevented people from attending his funeral. Paige is confident that snake venom was used to poison the Lithuanian president. Toby tackles the doctor to prevent him from using the adrenaline that would kill him instantly in the case that this is from snake venom. Cabe backs his team, and they are determined to figure out who is behind the attack and how they can save the man’s life.
Toby and Sylvester work to figure out which snake they need, while Paige, Happy, and Walter sneak out of the compound to get the snake to make the antidote. They make it appear as if someone is photographing the compound and use the distraction as a way out. Luckily, a man with a taco truck just happens to be coming down the road. Walter distracts the man while Happy and Paige get in the truck to steal it. They, then, proceed to steal a snake. Since Walter isn’t sure which snake to take, he decides to let the snake bite him first to make sure it’s the right one. This seems like a good idea. Oh and they also need another test subject to use for the antidote. This leads to Happy stealing a ferret. If you tuned into this episode for realism, you picked the wrong show.
When arriving back at the compound, Paige drops the ferret, which simply runs away. It’s a good thing that Happy just happens to be good at wrangling ferrets, since she ends up catching the ferret and bringing him into the room with the dying men, Walter included. The ferret contains the anitbodies needed to save Walter and the president. Naturally, they use a salad spinner to synthesize the ferret blood to use as an antidote. This case just got more and more crazy, but at least they saved the day. The three leaders signed a peace treaty once all was said and done.
During the melee, we find out that Cabe is hiding something. He was threatened with the truth about Walter’s tech in Baghdad. Now, we have no idea what that means, but secrets always have a way of coming out in the end. Cabe would do anything for Walter and the Scorpion team, and I would hate for this secret to come between them. Walter looks up to Cabe like a father figure, and I’d hate to see that relationship ruined so soon.
At least, we had some progression with Happy and Toby’s relationship. In the beginning of the episode, Toby put his hand on Happy’s back, which she immediately dismissed. She let him know that she’s not ready for this relationship. Somehow, I don’t think Toby will give up too easily especially since he couldn’t stop talking about their almost kiss. It all paid off in the end when happy pulled him in for a pretty big kiss after he helped to save the day. Here’s to hoping that they can keep pursuing this relationship. I think they are better when they are together.
Walter and Paige are still a little rocky in their relationship. Even though they are still only friends, Walter seems to not take Paige seriously enough. He didn’t even take a look at her report commenting that he was working on other things. It seems that no one thought her research was useful until they were in the heat of a crisis and needed her. He did groggily apologize for not taking her out to dinner while he was dying from the snake venom, so I suppose that counts for something. The case this week was pretty outlandish, but there were plenty of good moments. Keep tuning in to see how the rest of the premiere season treats our Scorpion team.
